If you died with Christ from the elements of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to ordinances, "Don't handle, nor taste, nor touch" (all of which perish with use), according to the precepts and doctrines of men? These things indeed appear like wisdom in self-imp...

Trust or Bust

  • If you will not believe, surely you shall not be established. Isaiah 7:9 WEB

Ephraim and Aram formed an alliance and prepared to invade Judah, which terrified the people living there. When the people of Judah learned of the coming invasion, 'The hearts of Ahaz and his people were shaken, as the trees of the forest are shaken by the wind' (Isaiah 7:2).

The Lord sent them the prophet Isaiah, who told them not to worry for the invasion would not happen. 'Be careful, keep calm and don't be afraid. Do not lose heart' (Isaiah 7:4). God then told them to stand firm in their faith, or they would not stand at all.

The words of this verse in the original language are a rhyme and basically mean: 'Trust or Bust.' God said that it is time for all, or nothing. You are in, or you are out. Countless times God had proven His faithfulness to them, but it was as if He had to start completely over each time a new problem arose.

It is important to God and to our success on this earth, that we believe what He tells us, and that we learn to trust Him. His promises are no good when we refuse to believe Him. He has come through for us so many times before, but each time when we are faced with a new trial, we often fall apart and start over again in unbelief just as they did. Oh woe is me!

There will be times when we are faced with terrible circumstances that make us want to cower, turn back, or stop what the Lord has called us to do. This is when we should examine ourselves and see whether it is the Lord calling us to a different direction, or is it just our fear holding us back. After all, we always imagine the worst possible thing that could happen.

If God is not giving us a new direction, then we stand on the last word from Him until He gives us a new one. When we have done all that we can, then we stand (Ephesians 6:13). We remind ourselves of what God has done for us in the past and build ourselves up like David. He does not need to prove His faithfulness again and again and again because we will believe Him. It is time to trust or bust. Today, stand firm in your faith no matter how dark the horizon appears.

Prayer: Heavenly Father I choose to trust You. I know that Your way is best and today I stand on Your word. No weapon formed against me will prosper. I serve God Almighty, what can man do to me? You have brought me this far and are well able to take care of me. May Your will be done in my life, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray. Amen!

Note: "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land." (2 Chron 7:14) ~ If you have a prayer need, we are here for you! We and the prayer team are ready to lift you up at our private prayer page: RHM Prayer Network

Amen!! Thank you for this Devotion today. We all need reminders that God has taken care of us before and he will continue to take care of us in the future no matter what. We have to always remember that God loves us so much and He wants what is best for us. He has always provided for us and that will never end as His love will never end either. We need to keep our eyes on our Savior Jesus Christ and what He has done for us in the past and know that He will continue to watch and care for us.
