Yahweh opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam, "What have I done to you, that you have struck me these three times?" Balaam said to the donkey, "Because you have mocked me, I wish there were a sword in my hand, for now I would have killed you." The donkey said to Balaam, "Am I not yo...

Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of his chariots, saying, "Don't fight with small nor great, except only with the king of Israel." When the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, they said, "It is the king of Israel!" Therefore they turned around to fight against him. But Jehoshap...

The Faith Of A Child

  • Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. But Jesus called them to him, saying, Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Luke 18:1517 ESV

At church one night, a visiting speaker called my six-year-old son up front and told him that the Lord had heard his prayer about the dog, and that he would receive it. I thought for sure the lady had missed it because he had never mentioned that he wanted a dog. After talking with him, we learned that he had been watching Smokey and the Bandit and wanted a basset hound like Jerry Reeds dog, Fred.

His mom said we would look and I interrupted and said Oh no, we are not helping God out. We already have a dog and are not looking for another one. If someone gives you a full-blooded male basset hound, we will know that it is God. A couple of weeks later, I came home from seminary and heard a strange dog barking. To my surprise, out walked a full blooded male basset hound puppy about nine weeks old, along with papers showing that he was AKC registered.

To shorten this up, my son and his mom were at the grocery story and while standing in line, they began talking with a woman, and she mentioned she had a puppy for sale. She had just purchased an AKC registered basset hound puppy for $600, but got it home and changed her mind. She wanted to sell him, but suddenly decided to give him to my son. She wrote God bless you on the papers and signed him over.

What could I say? I had spoken the requirements, and God surpassed it. My son had heard the word of God in church, he believed it, he prayed and God answered. A complete stranger gave him a full-blooded, AKC registered, male basset hound puppy. He named him Buford. All we need is simple faith of a child, and believe that God will do what He said.

Prayer: Lord, please let me see what is essential, heal the scars that the years have created, and help me to walk with the faith of a child once again, in the name of Jesus.

Twila Stierwalt What a great lesson, Faith for children is so pure and simple. Adults make things so complicated. We can learn so much from children. This is the message we all need.

Kathy Banfield
Kathy Banfield When I was a kid, I prayed in the same manner for a horse! My parents said they couldn't afford an equine pet, so I saved all my money and bought my first horse--a recently castrated barrel racer Quarter horse named Captain Jack--for the grand sum of $375! That was a lot of money to a 15 year old in 1975--LOL I couldn't afford a saddle so I learned to ride bareback and God rewarded me for my efforts--I won the Bareback Championship later that same year! God really does work in amazing ways! love, Kathy

Carol Pady
Carol Pady Thank you pastor Dion. this is so true. No matter how tempted we are to help God answer our prayers, we have to be still and know He is God. our attempts always fall short of God's perfect plan for us and our loved ones.

eileen forrest
eileen forrest We all need faith like a child.....a go-get-em’ attitude. Our children’s faiths are shaped and formed by us, and everyone that gives them input into the important questions they pose to us as children.. We need to be able to speak the Word Of God like a child, so that a child can understand, otherwise we are not communicating properly. This is very true Pastor Dion and I just wanted to say I read your devotions every morning with my friends, and we are just blown away at your "childlike" expressions for your love of God. God is so happy with you and how you are leading His sheep back to the fold. Thank you Pastor Dion. We love you.

Karen Pasquinelli
Karen Pasquinelli I was talking to my 3 year old granddaughter one day and when my daughter got back on the phone, I said I wish I were there to understand every word (you know 3 year olds are hard to understand especially on the phone).  Anyway my daughter told me she was praying that she prays all the time.  I hope she never strays away like most of us do, I love that she prays all the time (the faith of a child).

Deleted Member Oh, I know about our little grandson praying and he has such amazing faith and he is so bright knowing that Jesus will take care of everything. When my Mammy passed away just a few months ago, my little grandson that was 3 at the time, would not leave my side. He knew my heart was sad, on the day we buried my Mammy, he sat right there with me at the grave site and tears were flowing from me, because she was not only a Mammy to be, she was like a Mom. My little grandson took the kleenex from my hands and wiped my tears away and said, MeMaw, take a deep breath, its gonna be okay. Oh as I write this, this morning tears are running down my face, not only because of missing my Mammy, because I know she is in Heaven, but also for the faith my little grandson had that day, to tell me its gonna be okay MeMaw.

Deleted Member Amen, if we would just come to Jesus as His little children, believing and having that faith as little children, and not make it so difficult, like we tend to do as adults, life would be so much happier. Happy as little children without a care.

Deleted Member Amen, may I have that faith as little children, because I sure need Jesus to answer special prayers in my life and I know as an adult I tend to want to help Jesus, but I have decided to lay it at His feet and walk away having that faith as a little child. No worries and no cares.
