Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. But Jesus called them to him, saying, Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Luke 18:1517 ESV
At church one night, a visiting speaker called my six-year-old son up front and told him that the Lord had heard his prayer about the dog, and that he would receive it. I thought for sure the lady had missed it because he had never mentioned that he wanted a dog. After talking with him, we learned that he had been watching Smokey and the Bandit and wanted a basset hound like Jerry Reeds dog, Fred.
His mom said we would look and I interrupted and said Oh no, we are not helping God out. We already have a dog and are not looking for another one. If someone gives you a full-blooded male basset hound, we will know that it is God. A couple of weeks later, I came home from seminary and heard a strange dog barking. To my surprise, out walked a full blooded male basset hound puppy about nine weeks old, along with papers showing that he was AKC registered.
To shorten this up, my son and his mom were at the grocery story and while standing in line, they began talking with a woman, and she mentioned she had a puppy for sale. She had just purchased an AKC registered basset hound puppy for $600, but got it home and changed her mind. She wanted to sell him, but suddenly decided to give him to my son. She wrote God bless you on the papers and signed him over.
What could I say? I had spoken the requirements, and God surpassed it. My son had heard the word of God in church, he believed it, he prayed and God answered. A complete stranger gave him a full-blooded, AKC registered, male basset hound puppy. He named him Buford. All we need is simple faith of a child, and believe that God will do what He said.
Prayer: Lord, please let me see what is essential, heal the scars that the years have created, and help me to walk with the faith of a child once again, in the name of Jesus.
