In the fourth watch of the night, Jesus came to them, walking on the sea. When the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, "It's a ghost!" and they cried out for fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying "Cheer up! I AM! Don't be afraid." Peter answered him and said...

Anchor of the Soul from Refreshing Hope Ministries on Vimeo. When people lose hope, they lie down and die. They lose the will to live and fight any longer. Hopelessness is utter despair, the belief that nothing good will happen. When you begin to think like this, it will bring a desire to die. A ...

The Pharisees and the scribes asked him, "Why don't your disciples walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with unwashed hands?" He answered them, "Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honors me with their lips, But their heart is far f...

Rock Bottom

  • And the LORD appointed a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the belly of the fish, saying, I called out to the LORD, out of my distress, and he answered me Jonah 1:16 ESV

Sitting in the black darkness all alone, Jonah contemplated his situation from the inside of a great fish. The Lord had told him to go preach, but Jonah decided to do something else entirely, and went the other way. In time, his past caught up with him and swallowed him alive. Now it looked like the end. He had disobeyed, and this was his punishment. He deserved it, it is over, 'bout as well lay down and die.

Then some spark of hope arose in Jonah, as his life was fainting away (2:7) he prayed to the Lord and God changed his circumstances. God spoke to the fish and it took Jonah back to the land and spit him out. Peter thought that he had wrecked his life as well when he denied even knowing the Lord Jesus three times in one night (Mark 14:72), but the Lord restored him.

I am not saying that sin and running away from God is alright. I am saying that with a simple prayer, you can make it right. Sometimes when we run from God, He will allow us to hit rock bottom. Then when we turn to Him, He will help us. It is never too late, because God's love has no limits. It is never too late, because when you hit rock bottom, He can restore you just as He did Jonah, Peter and me.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, pick me up when I fall. Blow your breath on the fire within me and cause me to stand firm on Your word, in the name of Jesus I pray.

Amen. This is right on time. My son is currently going through rehab for his alcohol addiction so this gives me hope for him. Since he cannot have electronics while he's inpatient I will save this message for him and share it with him when he gets home.

We hit rock bottom in spirit bc of another's actions 7 years ago. Thankfully God has brought her through and in the name of Jesus everything is straightening out. A long long wait. Thank you God. Praise the Lord. Sustain us Holy Spirit with hope. Amen.
