When he came down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. Behold, a leper came to him and worshiped him, saying, "Lord, if you want to, you can make me clean." Jesus stretched out his hand, and touched him, saying, "I want to. Be made clean." Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. Matthew 8...

Hope in the Dark from Refreshing Hope Ministries on Vimeo. How can you have hope while living in a dark time? When you feel like what you are facing is so powerful, all you can do is pray. Many before us did, and we can learn from their examples.  First, if you read the New Testament, you'l...

Then the devil took him into the holy city. He set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, 'He will command his angels concerning you,' and, 'On their hands they will bear you up, so that you don't dash your foot against...

Cold Dead Dreams

  • Now, behold, the cry of the children of Israel has come to me. Moreover I have seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them. Come now therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh, that you may bring forth my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt. Moses said to God, 'Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?' He said, 'Certainly I will be with you.' Exodus 3:9 WEB

When Moses was a young man, he dreamed of delivering his people from their slavery in Egypt. Once when he saw one of his people being beaten by an Egyptian, he killed the man doing it and hid him in the sand (Exodus 2:12). When Pharaoh found out later, he sought to kill Moses, so Moses had to flee from the land of Egypt.

Moses went and lived with a man named Jethro, who was a priest in Midian. He married Jethro's daughter Zipporah, settled down, and tended sheep for forty years in the wilderness. The dream of helping his people slowly faded away. Then when Moses was eighty years old, God appeared to him in a burning bush and told him to return to Egypt, but Moses started making excuses:

    - Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh (Exodus 3:11).

    - They will not believe me (4:1).

    - I am not a good speaker (4:10).

    - Please send someone else (4:13).

Moses had become just another humble shepherd and thought that he was all washed up, but God saw that Moses had just become usable and that Moses was just getting warmed up. For it is not who you are, but Who it is that sends you. God often hides His people away until they become ready to use, just as Moses was hidden in the desert.

In my own life, I graduated Bible college when I was young, thought I knew everything and was ready to take the world for Jesus, but only met frustration and closed doors. For the next twenty years I worked various jobs to makes ends meet and eventually found myself in a computer business. Then long after I had given up on ever being in ministry, when it never even crossed my mind anymore, He decided that it was time and He pushed me into the ministry.

I no longer desired to be a minister. I felt like I was empty and knew absolutely nothing about the Bible. I had been hurt and disappointed by His people more often than not. I was content to carry on just as I was, and planned to continue working in our computer business until the end. Then suddenly our business dried up, every job door was closed, we began to starve, then I was offered a job as a Pastor and here I am writing this. Like Moses, I learned that He can be persuasive.

So when you begin to feel that you are too tired, or too old, or too busy, and the dream that once burned hot within you is now cold and dead. There is still hope. Sometimes God ages us and lets that selfish ambition die before He will use us. Instead of going in your own strength, you will do it in His power. Instead of being washed up, you just might be getting warmed up. Your greatest work can be in front of you.

Prayer: Heavenly Father I thank you for bringing me this far. I pray that you stir my spirit once again. Revive me Lord. Make me a fire for You. Help me to walk in Your strength and not my own, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

God is good and faithful and even if I mess up or slow down or pause HE IS FAITHFUL; because it is and has always been about HIS WILL, HIS PLAN AND HIS PURPOSE.Even when the things in my life seems to be so overwhelming, Father you are still ever so loving and faithful and listens to my every growning and complaining and resquets for change.  Thanks you Jesus that you always have the final say.Thank you for your GRACE that has enabled me to be in the land of the living.Thank you pastor Todd, this is exactly what I needed to hear today. God bless you and may he continue to guide you to produce these timely devotionals even if I have to catch up on some of them. Thank you for being a good and faithful steward.
