A Half Empty Glass

  • In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things. Philippians 4:5 WEB

Think of a glass of water sitting on a dining table in a restaurant. One person may see the glass half full of water, while another sees the glass half empty. The glass itself contains the same amount of water no matter how you look at it.

When you are looking through satan's eyes at his plan for your life, it is going to be a dark, twisted, distorted view, filled with doubt, lack, despair, loneliness, and the never ending fear of what is coming. The glass will continue to drain away until there is nothing left. Then what will you do?

When you look through the eyes of Jesus at His plan for your life, you will find it full of hope, love, light, acceptance, forgiveness, and you will face the day knowing that whatever comes, God has got your back. If the glass does run out of water, the waiter can refill it. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you (Philippians 4:13). No weapon formed against you will prosper (Isaiah 54:17). So we may boldly say: 'The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?' (Hebrews 13:6).

From whose point of view are you looking at your life from? If you feel burdened down like you are carrying the world on your shoulders, then it is the wrong one, and that is not uncommon today. Life is busy, and there are often many things pulling from many directions. Don't let it get to you. You were never meant to be everything to everyone, all the time. You just need to be you. They can all accept you, or not, it is ok. God does.

Paul wrote that we should be anxious about nothing, but pray with gratitude and make your requests known to God, because that is when the peace of God comes. Jesus said in Matthew 6:34 to not worry about tomorrow, for it will take care of itself. Paul learned to be content in whatever situation that he found himself in (Philippians 4:11).

So don't get anxious and give up today. What is lost can still be replaced. What was stolen, can be recovered. Pray and be thankful for what the Lord has already done for you. Remember the times that He has moved in your life. View your life through the eyes of Jesus who loved you so much that He endured the cross. God throws no one away.

Prayer: Heavenly Father I thank you for bringing me this far. Please show me what I can do for You. Give me a clear vision, calm my mind, give me more of Your peace in my life. Give me the grace to change my ways and become more like You, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Indeed, this earthly life is full of stress and strife. That's why we need to remember Jesus has overcome it ALL! All we need to do is surrender and trust Him. I carry those words from Phillippians with me in my purse so I can revert my stinkin' thinkin' to all that is pure, noble, and good!
