When the Grace is Gone

  • And Jacob saw that Laban did not regard him with favor as before. Then the LORD said to Jacob, Return to the land of your fathers and to your kindred, and I will be with you. Genesis 31:2 ESV

Things were beginning to be difficult for Jacob where he worked. The Lord had certainly put him there, prospered him greatly and he had become wealthy. Up until then, his father-in-law had always treated him with favor. Now there was a distance between them, strife and a growing distrust. Laban had changed Jacobs wages ten times (Gen 31:7). Though each time Laban tried to pay Jacob less, God would reverse the expected outcome. The Lord then told Jacob, Return home and I will be with you.

I have been in a work place where I knew that God had put me there. At first it was very easy and graceful, but eventually the grace lifted, it became difficult, there was a growing distrust, and each change that came was always for the worse. In time, the Lord told me to leave, though at the time I had nowhere to go. It was just a leap of faith. This I know: When the grace is gone, it is time to move on.

Sometimes when it becomes time to move, God will allow things to become difficult, and then a door opens where we should go. It can all seem so natural, but it is God behind the scenes moving people to where they need to be. Not every difficult situation is to be left; some of the worst ones I had to endure. There were three points in this story: 1) Jacob had gotten uncomfortable. 2) He was able to leave. 3) He felt that he heard the Lord say go.

Anytime that you have to make a big decision, pray and listen for the Lords voice. Jesus said, "My sheep hear My voice. Ask the Lord to make it an easy decision and close the doors that you should stay out of. Change brings new and exciting things and is necessary for us to move forward. If you do not change directions, you will end up exactly where you are headed. Be sure that is where you want to go.

Schalk de Beer
Schalk de Beer Thank you Dion, this morning in service,  the pastor said that we have to wait for the Holy Spirit, although you have walked to Emmaus 11 km, or waited for 11 years, you will get the burning heart. Today your message of the uncomfortable work was the confirmation of 11 years of waiting.  This year will be my year for our Heavenly Father.  God bless RHM.

Patty Martin
Patty Martin Thank you so much, Pastor Todd, for this morning's message.  I have had to make many difficult decisions in my life, but the ones I made following God's lead, were always the right ones.  One of the hardest decisions I ever made was to ask my husband of 24 yrs. to leave.  I had taken him back seven times, but the alcoholism, cheating, and refusal to work had finally taken its toll on me.  I tried to work things out for years...letting him go and taking him back...but each time I became more confused, depressed, angry and devastated.  My husband continued his lifestyle. We were counseled by my pastor and a professional psychologist, but to no avail. He refused to go into an alcoholic program and didn't want to go to counseling any longer.  Finally, during intense prayer with the Father, I felt a gentle but firm "Let him go and move forward.  You will be okay.  I have a better life planned for you."  So I let him go.  I will always love that man but I realized that while I was seeking God and desiring to please God, my husband was being pulled by the enemy and distancing himself from God. The Lord knew this situation was unhealthy for me...mentally, emotionally, and physically (I had lost 78 lbs. in just 3 1/2 months).  After 12 yrs., we are friends and deeply care for each other, but that is where the relationship has to stay.  I only feel the pain when I reminice of what could have been; otherwise, I am happily single, teaching second graders, and serving in my church's ministry.  Whatever our situation, when we follow God's lead, there is always a rainbow after the storm.

Twila Stierwalt
Twila Stierwalt Be still and know that I am God.I know for me my mind sometimes is not very still, so I can not here Gods voice. God brings this scripture to my mind often when I start letting my feelings get the best of me. I need to set my mine on things above and not on things of this earth. If I do God will lead me where He wants me to go, or be. Psalm 62: 1-2 and 5-8, My soul Waits in silence for God only, (He keeps saying this) read the rest of this scripture and God will bless you and speak to your heart.

Jeanne Hopple
Jeanne Hopple Thank you Pastor Dion for this wonderful inspiring message. God has led to many great places and wonderful opportunities to serve him. Sometimes I did not understand why doors suddenly closed and many people were very difficult and unkind at those times. But through much prayer, God has always led my family and I to much better great places to serve him and linked me with great colleagues and more opportunities to serve Him in a bigger way. Have a blesses day everyone!

Carol Pady
Carol Pady Amen! Being in an unequally yoked marriage for 34 yrs,  I had faced the question many years ago, if I should go. Today my pre-believer husband watched church with me on our big screen TV.  Believe me this is a huge indication that God is working. He hasn't went a to church since he was a child! I don't know if the seed planted today will soon bear fruit, but I do know my decision to stay and pray was the right decision. God drew me so much closer to Him because of our unequallness and now He is blessing me with new hope for my husband! I'm so glad I listened to His small still voice that said "stay".

Zodie Dempsey
Zodie Dempsey Very encouraging word today, Pastor Dion. Thank you for sharing your wisdom from God each and every day. It lifts me up and helps meore than you know. I'very been underemployed since leaving a tenured teaching position in NC four years ago to move home to take care of my elderly Mama 4 years ago. It is very difficult to break into edu cation in my hometown even though I have 14 years of experience. I feel God led me to teach. I have tried for positions outside my field but am considered over-qualified b/c I have a master's degree. Financially and spiritually, this has been a difficult move but I feel it was the right one. Please pray that the just right full-time that God has for me position opens up this year. Again, thank you!

Patricia Walker
Patricia Walker I had to face this decision many years ago.  To stay in a loveless & abusive marriage or go.  I went to the church to ask the Father what I should do..He asked me- "What are you getting out of this marriage"? I quickly said the truth, "Nothing"!  He said to me, "You have your answer".  I then realized that no matter what I had to do to survive would be better than what I was living with.  That was 29 years ago.... Thank You God for being with me on the freedom journey!!!  Amen !

Leslie McLea
Leslie McLea Every day I do my best to go to my job in a happy state. Every day I make it till about 8:30 / 9:00am. Same time every day, this gray cloud hangs overhead. I am beyond trying to influence this negative crowd although I know there are some that are influenced. But the negativity here chokes me daily and I am at my wits end. I have prayed, I daily pray, I pray by the minutes. I know GOD put me here, yet, I do not see a way clear for me to go somewhere else. And frankly I don't have the skills that businesses of today look for. I'm well over 50, I have Osteoarthritis do not have a GED, nor am I computer savvy. I feel very stuck here, and unless Gods presence goes with me, I do not want to leave this place. I am the only bread winner, God is silent. I find it hard to smile any more.

Dar Woodhurst
Dar Woodhurst Thank you Pastor Todd, I read your ministries every day.  I am always inspired by them, some more than others.  This one is especially important as I have a lot of knowledge in the IT field, but on one HDI-CSR certification.  I left a merit position to build a pet sitting business, unfortunately after 5 years and huge debt I had to close it.  I still feel that I want a business, and I think GOD instills that in me, as the little bit of pension I had when I left will not be much. I recently started a basket and gift business and plan on working hard to build it and bring in some good supplemental income for us when we retire in 5 years.  I know GOD is with me, my husband and I had about 3 years from 2008 to 2011 of a rough patch with him having cancer then getting laid off and myself getting laid off in 2010 from contractual work, then finding out my husband had cancer.  We are both working full time, but I am not making what I was, which is why I am going to build a business, something that no one can fire or lay me off from.  I know GOD will guide me and take me where I am supposed to be.  Thank you again.
