If you died with Christ from the elements of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to ordinances, "Don't handle, nor taste, nor touch" (all of which perish with use), according to the precepts and doctrines of men? These things indeed appear like wisdom in self-imp...

Walk on Water from Refreshing Hope Ministries on Vimeo. An extraordinary event unfolds in Matthew chapter 14, one that is unparalleled elsewhere in the Bible: a common fisherman defying the laws of nature by walking on water. This miraculous feat wasn't performed by Jesus, but rather by Peter, a ...

Lay It Down

  • Brothers, I don't regard myself as yet having taken hold, but one thing I do: forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13 WEB

I was at a very dark place in my life. The doctor had placed me on anti-depressants, yet I remained a recluse with suicidal thoughts. Once I had carried the precious anointing of the Holy Spirit. Now I only seemed to carry misery and felt that He could not be found. It was certainly me that withdrew from Him, and now I felt alone in the gloom. How did I get here? It is a long story that is not that relevant, but how it changed is.

There seemed to be a very small light in that darkness, a small ray of hope. The Lord started speaking to me very gently, like someone trying to ease up to an injured animal. Slowly, little by little, He led me out of the darkness. I found that He still had a plan for my life, but I had to follow Him. It took action. I had to make some serious changes in my life that others intensely disliked. Albert Einstein said it best with: 'Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results.' Sometimes it takes change.

Every journey begins with a first step. You don't have to let your past determine your future. You can make a choice. You can begin today. You cannot steer a car that is sitting still; it just gets older. To change its course, it has to be moving. Paul forgot the things behind, and pressed on towards the goal. Don't give up for there is still hope. The end of a thing can be better than the beginning.

Don't become trapped in your past, or let other people control your future. You are older and wiser today. This is your life, a shiny new day, a fresh start. You are forgiven, and God still has plans for you. Press on for the prize and do not let the enemy hold you back. There is still hope, for what you see does not have to be. God will always call you into the brightest version of your life, and every other path is inferior to His. Hold tight to the lifeline that He gives you, and let go of the past, cut it loose, lay it down.

Prayer: Heavenly Father I come to You today and I thank You being there for me. Please draw me out of my shell Lord, draw me to You. Give me a clear vision of my next step. Inspire me to make the right decisions in my life and lead me this day, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Thank You Pastor Dion for the Devotional Reading. I had a suicide attempt when I was 18 years old and I almost died. I was hospitalized for five weeks because of the suicide attempt. I'm 38 now and I still take medication for depression and bipolar disorder. I have some good days then I have not so good days. I thank God for giving me life and helping me to cope with stress. I pray for healing and abundance and to be at peace with my self and to love my self the way that God made me. Over the years some of my family members told me that I had a hard life. This is true but I hope that I will live a long time and have a good life. I look forward  to that.
