Fly Like an Eagle

  • As an eagle that stirs up her nest, that flutters over her young, he spread abroad his wings, he took them, he bore them on his feathers. Deuteronomy 32:11 WEB

When an eagle has its young, it lines the inside of its nest with feathers, fur and other soft material to make the little ones comfortable in the nest. The parents hunt and bring food to feed them. Basically they wait on the little ones hand and foot and try their best to make them comfortable in the nest.

Later, when the little ones grow and get mature enough to fly on their own, the parents start pulling the fur out of the nest, exposing the sticks and making them uncomfortable. They also stop bringing food, or bring food but place it on a limb outside of the nest so the little eaglets have to come out of the nest to get it. Then they place it further and further away, and the delays between eating become longer each day. Finally the little eagle will take flight and leave the nest to find food on their own.

We went through a season where our business was dying and no amount of advertising, giving, praying, or fasting could change it. When we advertised, it was like throwing money in the trash. When we gave, we just had less. When we prayed, we got cold silence. When we fasted, we were only hungry. We held on as long as could, paying our bills with credit cards. Finally, we had to close it and began looking for other work. That was when our life suddenly changed for the better. Soon afterwards we found ourself in ministry and writing this devotional. The end result was great, but getting here was rough.

Sometimes the Lord will make your situation uncomfortable. No matter where you turn, no matter how hard you pray, the sticks are still there and you are starving. When this happens, it is time to fly. Everything that you see is temporary (2 Corinthians 4:18). Jobs end, and new opportunities begin. There is a season for everything (Ecclesiastes 3:1), and an important thing to know is that seasons do change. Don't be afraid to let go, for He will catch you.

Prayer: Heavenly Father please guide me today and give me a clear direction. I want to follow You, but to be honest, sometimes I don't know what to focus on. Give me clarity and speak to me in a way that I understand. Help me align my will with Yours, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Note: For those who are participating in our Creation Photographers theme of the week: Psalm 104:24 "How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures." - Our next fun theme will be 'Naturally Nature'. Our themes are always open for creative interpretation and you are encouraged to post anything else inspiring as well. My photos (in the group) reflect just a small portion of the beauty and blessings God has gifted us to live near. Show us God's beautiful creations around you!!! Have a blessed and amazing week everyone! Here is the link: Creation Photographers

Spend time in a quiet place alone to be able to hear Him. Jesus did this too. Sometimes He will speak to you through the advice of another person, or through scripture or a dream.

I'm in that place right now. I've come to admit through my worn out body telling me that I can't sustain my current job and keep up the pace. I keep asking God to heal this Hip pain so that I can work but it lingers. I know full well that He can heal me if He chose to do so. I keep praying that if He feels it's time for me to move on then so be it. I ask Him to open a door for a better job opportunity and for Him to lead me to it and through it. Any prayers would be appreciated, thanks.

This is exactly what I needed to hear as I get ready to head back to Virginia. I know I’m doing the right thing taking care of my dad. However, it has taken it’s toll on our marriage. My husband and I are living together separately, and he is no longer supportive of me taking care of him full time. He resents that I am so focused on my dad. It has caused tremendous stress and negative energy in our house. It’s even more difficult, because he is retired from Federal Law Enforcement and our income has decreased substantially, Due to a much smaller pension and also because he is not old enough to collect social security. I had to quit my job and start a childcare business, so I can be home more for my dad. However, through it all, God is good

This is a great devotional and on time for me! How interesting the way an Eagle raises it's young. Nature is smart as God has given them this knowledge and so he does to us also. Thank you Pastor Dion! Amen.
