  • Yahweh turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends. Yahweh gave Job twice as much as he had before. Job 42:10 WEB

A man named Job went through a terrible time in his life where he suddenly lost everything, including his children, his servants, his livestock, which were his wealth. Then he became sick and was covered in sores and painful boils from head to foot. As he sat in a pile of ashes and scraped the sores that covered his body, his friends came and told him that it was the sinful life he had lived that had caused all of this to happen. When actually Job had lived a blameless and upright life.

Before this trial, Job had been a man of wealth and power, but now he had nothing. He was wiped out financially, his children were gone, and his health had deteriorated, and it all happened in a very short time. This was a low point.

At the end of the book, instead of Job becoming bitter, he prayed for those same misguided friends who had accused him, and God changed his situation. God gave him twice as much as he had before. He turned the captivity of Job around and set him free when he prayed for someone else, instead of only himself. Everything that Job lost, he gained back double. Read chapter one of Job, then chapter forty-two and compare the numbers. It is all listed in detail.

Jesus said: 'Again, assuredly I tell you, that if two of you will agree on earth concerning anything that they will ask, it will be done for them by my Father who is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there I am in the midst of them' (Matthew 18:19'20).

Solomon said: 'Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn't have another to lift him up' (Ecclesiastes 4:9'10).

Pray for your others, especially when they do not deserve it, even the ones that look down at you. When you pray for others, God will move people to pray for you. How would you pray for them? Use the Golden Rule: 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.' Pray for the things that you would like to see in your own life, to happen in theirs. It could very well be what sets you free from your own captivity.

Prayer: Heavenly Father I thank You for all that you do for me. Please show me those in need and teach me how to pray for them. Anoint me and guide me today, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

I really needed to hear this message.  Pastor Dion, thank you for this beautiful message!  It’s not always easy to pray for those that hurt you. I have to remind myself that hurt people hurt those they are closest to and need to be loved and prayed for the most. I pray that I can do this even when I don’t feel like it

Amen! It is so easy to lift up and pray for your loved ones, friends, neighbors, etc. - but not so easy to pray for those that have harmed us or our loved ones, I'd call them the "unlovely"! I so often forget to include them in my prayers! Oh Lord God, dear Heavenly Father please bring them to my mind by the power of Thy Holy Spirit, when I pray that I'd also include them, I ask this in the Holy name of Jesus, Amen!
