Do Not Be Dismayed from Refreshing Hope Ministries on Vimeo. Today I want to talk about becoming “Dismayed.” To be dismayed means “to be downcast, disappointed, disheartened, filled with terror.” It replaces hope and will lead you to a dark place. We become ineffective and...

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. James 1:2 WEBMy Dad was born during the great depression in the early 1930s...

But as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives. In the end, he will stand upon the earth. After my skin is destroyed, then I will see God in my flesh, whom I, even I, will see on my side. The Twelve String

  • Give thanks to Yahweh with the lyre. Sing praises to him with the harp of ten strings. Psalm 33:2 WEB

When I ran my fingers across the strings, I knew instantly that this was the most beautiful sounding instrument that I had ever picked up, and that I had to have one. It was a Fender twelve string acoustic guitar, a dark red sunburst, and it was in perfect tune. I am not much of a guitar player, but even strumming it with your fingers sounded wonderful and full. She was as pretty as the sound she made and it was difficult to make her sound bad, at the the beginning of our relationship.

Later, as it got played and went through temperature changes, it became out of tune, and what a change that was. Now when you strummed across the strings it reminded you of cats fighting and no one could make it sound good. Everything that had previously been right with it, was now horribly wrong. After a painful time of tuning it back up, anyone that has tuned a twelve string guitar knows what I am talking about, it sounded wonderful and full once again. It just needed to be kept in tune to sound good.

So it is with us. When we are in tune with the Lord's plan for us, our life is beautiful, full, and we are a joy to be around. But after being played for a while by others, we can become flat, sharp, or a bit of both. We begin to make irritating noises that no one likes, and it is simply because we have slipped out of tune.

The good news is that no matter how out of tune you are, the Lord can fix you. He can restore what is missing. He can make the bad, and the sad, into the great, and the joyful. The way to get in tune with the Lord again is by getting somewhere quiet and talking to Him like you would a friend. It is the Lord Jesus that beautifully tunes us, polishes us, and cares for us. With His help we will become the very best version of ourselves, which will be something beautiful.

Prayer: Heavenly Father please lead me into all that You have in store for me. May Your perfect will be done in my life. You told us that Your sheep hear Your voice and another they will not follow. Teach me to recognize when You are speaking to me. Keep me in tune with You Lord, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Note: "And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord's people" (Ephesians 6:18). If you have a prayer need, we are here for you! We and the prayer team are ready to lift you up at our private prayer page: RHM Prayer Network
