The Wonderful You

  • Which commandment is the greatest of all? Jesus answered, 'The greatest is, 'Hear, Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one: you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.' This is the first commandment. The second is like this, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these. Mark 12:28 WEB

When they asked Jesus what the greatest commandment was, He told them: 'Love God, and Love others.' This is first and foremost, but after that, be yourself. Some of the greatest people that I know are uniquely themselves. They try and be no one else, and they resist trying to fit into a Christian template that someone else created in their minds. Love God, love others, and be who He created you to be.

God created you with your personality, characteristics, skills, likes and dislikes, wants and desires. Some people like macaroni and cheese, some don't. I do. God crafted you with His loving hands to be who you are. You are not a mistake. So don't throw away your uniqueness by trying to be someone else. You can be a mediocre imitation of them, or a wonderful you.

I love electronics and gadgets. I also love the word of God and the stories in the Bible. I have always wanted to bring them together. When I was young, I wanted to go into the ministry, but when I tried to follow the path of others, I was like a fish out of water and every door was closed. I didn't belong. Most of the people that I went to bible college with were proud to not own a computer then, they had heard bad things about them.

At this time in the South, people associated computers with the mark of the beast, the devil, and they could not see how it could ever be used for good. I tried to give my pastor one I built and he said something like: 'Ive heard bad things about those machines.' The religious people I knew made me feel ashamed of owning one, so I kept my garage full of computer parts a dark secret and quietly worked on things like creating a digital mp3 version of the Bible to listen to, because my cassettes kept getting eaten. Soon I had the Bible looping from Genesis to Revelation on a computer in my workshop around the clock, and anytime I walked in, there was a different book playing.

I learned that God made me the opposite of a technophobe, intentionally, and for a purpose. My desk is commonly covered with broken computers. Macs, Linux, Windows, I use all three every day to do what we do here. Accompanied by Virtual machines, iPads, Androids, Chrome books, and a Raspberry Pi or two. When my wife Sylvia sees the side of my computer removed with a couple of extra hard drives hanging out of it, she thinks nothing of it. That is my comfort zone.

When the Lord finally pushed us into ministry, it became an online church, and that fits who we are. I am no longer a fish out of water, and my peers would feel out of place if they were forced to be me. We are all created differently to fulfill a purpose that others cannot. So be yourself, and if you are not, then it is never too late for you to get started.

No matter what you have done in the past, you can be forgiven. No matter how bad you have broken it, it can be repaired. No matter how far away that you have drifted, He is waiting for your return. God loves you and He still has a plan for your life. So do not look down on yourself because you do not fit inside of a mold that someone else created. Their clothes were never meant to fit you.

Prayer: Heavenly Father please lead me into all that You have for me. Help me find the place that I belong. Put Your desires in my heart, guide me, speak to me, and through me, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

This is one of the most important and Holy things we can do, be yourself be who God created you to be. My family had a love hate relationship with music, My father wanted to be a singer like Perry Como, I am named after him, But he became afraid and did what his peers told him he should do, he missed out, My mother was always afraid to do anything she has also missed out, I was always told i had to work a 9-5 job because that is just what everyone has to do. I wasnt allowed to be who I was supposed to be because I listened to others who thought they had my best interest at heart. They meant well, but they were putting me in their mold. I am 60 years old now, and I am finally though Gods Grace and guided by the holy spirit using my gifts that God has givin me, Things are changing for the better, And I have joy in what I am doing. Its never to late! Thank You Lord Jesus and Thank You my dear Friend Pastor Dion Amen!

It is a good bit more work to record and create a video each time, but if there was enough demand for it, anything is possible  :)

So true Pastor Dion. I thank God for you, Sylvia and the whole RHM ministry and family on here. From the beginning when I first started reading your devotional on Peace Be With U website; Holy Spirit has helped me through the difficult time of the loss of my wife and other spiritual growth that I needed.  I feel more at home here and get spiritually fed at this online church more than other churches I've been a member to or visited. I've always considered this my home church, even though I went silent for awhile because God was dealing with me about some things. I've got to give Him all of me and trust Him and HIS timing for everything else. Haven't found a physical church that compares. Every place I've visited and filled out their visitor's card with my e-mail and phone number; they never follow up and contact me,makes me feel unwelcome. Was just trying to find a place to actively worship and take part in face to face fellowship and service for the Lord. Don't feel at home at all in a large mega church type enviroment either. I even indicated that I was wanting to join one of their home groups. I guess they could care less. Still praying about this. But, that's why I like RHM it has the feel and welcome of a small country church where everyone knows each other, fellowships together and prays for one another even though there are a lot of members. I know it's not face to face but, it's close enough for me and I value each and every one here. May God bless you all and help us all grow to our fullest potential in Him.

Love this devotional!  This is a beautiful reminder confirming that we shouldn't conform to other's molds.  God's creation of each of us is perfect, and we need to seek from Him what/who He created us to be ❤️.
