So when he had washed their feet, put his outer garment back on, and sat down again, he said to them, 'Do you know what I have done to you? You call me, 'Teacher' and 'Lord.' You say so correctly, for so I am.If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one anot...

Brothers, even if a man is caught in some fault, you who are spiritual must restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, looking to yourself so that you also aren't tempted. Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:1'2 WEBPicture us all climbing a mountain together,...

Crouching At The Door

  • Yahweh said to Cain, 'Why are you angry? Why has the expression of your face fallen? If you do well, won't it be lifted up? If you don't do well, sin crouches at the door. Its desire is for you, but you are to rule over it.' Genesis 4:6 WEB

Cain became very angry because the Lord had no regard for the offering that he had brought, but did to Abel's offering. After this, the Lord told Cain that sin was crouching at his door and desired to have him, but that he must rule over it.

Apparently Cain did not manage to rule over the sin in his life, for right after this, he murdered his brother Abel while they were out in the field. What was hidden inside of Cain's heart, eventually came to pass. As to why God accepted Abel's offering but not Cain's, it was clearly the condition of his heart, and not his gift. These two scriptures give us insight:

'The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination: How much more, when he brings it with a wicked mind!' (Proverbs 21:27).

'For this is the message which you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another; unlike Cain, who was of the evil one, and killed his brother. Why did he kill him? Because his works were evil, and his brother's righteous' (1 John 3:11'12).

Sin still crouches at the door of our heart today. It only needs a slight crack and it will be inside sitting on the couch. Paul wrote in Ephesians 4:26, 'In your anger do not sin' and then 'do not give the devil a foothold' right after it. When you become 'very' angry, you let sin in the door, you give it a foothold, just as Cain did.

Keep your anger in check and do not let it become your master. Instead you must master it, for once sin is running loose in the house, it is hard to get out.

Prayer: Heavenly Father I pray that You help me control my emotions and make me stable. Let me not be swept up in fear or anger. Help me to master the sin in my life and live out all that You have for me, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

My mom and dad had anger issues with each other which we were exposed to daily. I’m 65 and still think about those days. I love them dearly but sometimes I struggle with anger. Thankfullly I’m in so much more control since I’ve been praying more and starting my day with devotionals. Thank you God. Praise God. Amen.
