The disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit. Acts 13:52 WEBWhile at the beach one day, I watched some kids playing with a beach ball. They would hit the ball and it would soar into the air, but then gradually float back down to the earth. Without some form of lift, the ball will alwa...

The Journey from Refreshing Hope Ministries on Vimeo. Today I want to talk about the journey of life. Our thinking is often consumed with what is happening today, or tomorrow, or sometimes what happened yesterday. God thinks in the long term. He can see our entire life at once. Think of it like t...

'He said to another, 'Follow me!' But he said, 'Lord, allow me first to go and bury my father.' But Jesus said to him, 'Leave the dead to bury their own dead, but you go and announce the Kingdom of God.' Another also said, 'I want to follow you, Lord, but first allow me to bid farewell to those who ...

Word Mastery

  • Set a watch, Yahweh, before my mouth. Keep the door of my lips. Psalms 141:3 WEB

David prayed that the Lord would set a guard over his mouth, to keep him from saying things that he should not. James said 'If we put bits into the mouths of horses so that they obey us, we guide their whole bodies as well' (James 3:3). If you can control your tongue, then you can control the rest of your body. Then James warned us that blessing and cursing should not flow out of the same source.

In the Old Testament (Numbers 14:28) the Lord said 'What I have heard you say, I will do to you.' In the New Testament (Matthew 12:36) Jesus said 'I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.'

So we have an unchanging pattern throughout time that what comes out of your mouth, directly affects your life and your circumstances. It was covered in the Old Testament, and it continues through the New Testament.

A mentor of mine used to say: "Words unspoken, you are their master. Words once spoken, you are their slave.'

Do not speak bad things over your life, family, or those around you. Say good things about them, or say nothing at all. Stay positive in your speech. When you are speaking today, listen to the words that you are saying. Like David, pray that God sets a guard over your mouth and that He makes you aware of the words that you are speaking.

Prayer: Heavenly Father I pray that You set a guard over my lips and let me hear what comes out of my mouth. Please forgive me of the things that I have said wrong and cleanse my heart, for I know out of the abundance of my heart, my mouth speaks. Help me be a positive influence on those around me, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Note: "if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land." (2 Chron 7:14). If you have a prayer need, we are here for you! We and the prayer team are ready to lift you up at our private prayer page: RHM Prayer Network

Marilyn Salter Pastor Todd, I don’t know how you know me so well, but I do have to watch my mouth. My sister says I have no filter! I try my best to think before I speak, but Lord help me, sometimes the door opens and it pops right out. After that I just feel guilt and remorse because I couldn’t control my tongue and thoughts. Thank you for sharing this today!

I was having a hard time with my side, she's wonderful for me,but, she is 100% right on everything I asked the Lord,"what can I do about her, wanting to fuss at me everyday. He did bridle my mouth,he shut me up,I heard,"agree with her", it worked,Jesus Christ, bless him,oh,Bless him. Made me shut my mouth and agree with h.er. We now have a "bridled mouth woman, and,a lady who is very happy being 100% right while shess in my home, thank you my Lord in Heaven. Amen!
