Simon Peter said to them, 'I'm going fishing.' They told him, 'We are also coming with you.' They immediately went out, and entered into the boat. That night, they caught nothing. But when day had already come, Jesus stood on the beach, yet the disciples didn't know that it was Jesus. John 21:3 WEBPeter stood on the shore of the sea of Galilee with the waves rolling in, and he was so discouraged. Jesus, who he had thought was the Messiah and soon to be King, had been arrested, scourged, crucified, and His lifeless body placed in a tomb. It was so final. Not that long ago, Jesus had taught from Peter's fishing boat on this same beach.
On top of that Peter had denied that he even knew Jesus three times and had then abandoned Him at the last moment. Peter had not even attended the crucifixion, or the burial. Now Jesus was gone, and everything that Peter thought that God was doing in his life had fallen apart.
This was Peter's fork in the road. Certainly God had been with them at the beginning, that was clear, but where was He now? Peter gave up on the dream and said: 'I am going fishing.' In other words, he would return to his old way of life before he met Jesus.
Then Jesus appeared to him on the shore, and He called him right back to the work that he had decided to leave. Though things had taken an unexpected turn, everything was still right on schedule. God knew what was going, but Peter couldn't see it at the time.
Sometimes God calls us to do something, and then on the surface it appears to fall apart, but in the bigger picture, everything is still right on schedule. When this happens our tendency is to return to our past. I have done this myself more than once.
Jesus is always calling us forward, and never into our past. God has plans for you, and the new battle scars that you picked up mean that you are a veteran. If you decide to stop and go fishing, you will probably not catch anything. Jesus will always be calling you into your future, not your past.
Prayer: Heavenly Father please guide me this day. Help me to see the way clearly. Direct my paths and speak to me in a way that I understand and know that it is You. I want more of You in my life Lord, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.Note: For those following our Creation Photographers group, here is the theme of the week: "Matthew Psalm 107:29 (NIV) 'He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.' Our next fun theme will be 'In the Eye of the Storm' and is open for interpretation as always so please do get creative! You are encouraged to post anything else that inspires you as well. My photo (in the group) today reflects me "in the eye of ANY storm" where I feel most connected to our Grand Creator, regaining my faith in the fact that we are never alone through any storm. May you all feel God's love and grace surrounding you each and every day." Here is the link:

Thank you Pastor for this devotional , God bless.
I feel that way sometimes. Just plugging along as my health is not what it use to be. What, Lord, can I do? Who can I speak to about You or say of you? Then the phone rang for an old friend called to talk. She takes care of her dying husband from a brain tumor. Listening to her in her hardship & then praying for her was what I needed & she too.
Keep us moving forward dear God. Don’t let us falter. Guide us and provide us opportunities. Thank you dear God for all your blessings and favor. In Jesus name I ask. Amen
