When Out of Answers

  • I have said these things to you, while still living with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and will remind you of all that I said to you.' John 14:25 WEB

One of the most challenging and rewarding things that you will ever undertake is trying to discern and follow the Holy Spirit. He has more wisdom than planet Earth combined and is just a prayer away. The Holy Spirit is not limited to Biblical knowledge. He was there at the beginning when God created the universe as the Spirit hovering over the waters (Genesis 1:2). He will still be with the bride at the end of the Book (Revelation 22:17).

The Holy Spirit knows 'All things' and He will share them with you if you take the time to ask. The Holy Spirit was with Moses (Numbers 11:29). He spoke through the prophets (Nehemiah 9:30). He came mightily on David (1Samuel 16:13). Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit (Luke 4:1). The Apostles were all filled with the Holy Spirit, multiple times (Acts 2:4, Acts 4:21) as well as many others, even gentiles (Acts 10:45).

We are commanded to be filled with the Spirit: 'Don't be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit' (Ephesians 5:18).

Yet many today do not even know that He exists, or teach others that He was only a part of church history: 'It happened that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul, having passed through the upper country, came to Ephesus, and found certain disciples. He said to them, 'Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?' They said to him, 'No, we haven't even heard that there is a Holy Spirit' (Acts 19:1'2).

The Holy Spirit is alive and well today and learning to be sensitive to His guidance will forever change your life. He has given me wisdom as a carpenter, as a transmission mechanic, as a computer technician, as a programmer, and as a writer. He has infinite wisdom to share about any subject that you face.

I once had to take an eight hour exam and by the time I had made it to page three, I was completely out of answers. I stopped and silently prayed and the answer came to each question on the test. I completed it with a grade of 97 percent. The first three percent, I had tried to do on my own.

Today if you run out of answers, pray to our Heavenly Father and then listen and watch for the response. It may be an email, a commercial, a road sign, or words from a friend, but you will recognize it when it comes. We do not have to walk alone.

Prayer: Heavenly Father please fill me anew with Your Holy Spirit just as You have so many others. Share Your wisdom and knowledge with me today. Teach me new and better ways to do things. Help me see what others do not, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Note: For those interested in capturing or viewing photos of God's creation, here is this week's theme message from Creation Photographers: "Matthew 5:15-16 "Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Our next fun theme will be 'A Parade of Lights'. In years past I've always envisioned this theme as a way to show off Christmas lights. I still do but this year I have an expanded vision. When I read this scripture this morning it called to me to show the love light of people who make a difference to others, that they really shine for God's glory. As always our themes are open for interpretation so please do show us your vision for this theme. Also you are encouraged to post anything else that inspires you!" Amen! I think the thing that is missing in most churches is teaching about the Holy Spirit. He can be found all through the Bible, but when Jesus accended into the Heavens, He promised to send the Holy Spirit to be our guide. The book of Acts is full of how to recognize Him.
