  • Now after these things, the Lord also appointed seventy others, and sent them two by two ahead of him into every city and place where he was about to come. Then he said to them, "The harvest is indeed plentiful, but the laborers are few. Pray therefore to the Lord of the harvest, that he may send ou...

Let no man say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God," for God can't be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each one is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed. Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin; and the sin, when it is full grown, brings forth dea...

Song Birds

  • Aren't five sparrows sold for two assaria coins? Not one of them is forgotten by God. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Therefore don't be afraid. You are of more value than many sparrows. Luke 12:6 WEB

We live in the South Carolina countryside and have a large oak tree in our yard, near our porch. We like to sit outside and read when the weather is nice, and it is amazing to see how many different types of small birds come by when everything is quiet.

Here it is common to see blue jays, cardinals, doves, woodpeckers, wrens, mocking birds, finches, an occasional humming bird, and of course, the tiny sparrow. The air becomes filled with bird songs. Some of the little birds can sing so loud that I often wonder how so much sound can come from such a tiny head.

The birds are accompanied by squirrels running up and down the tree, occasionally stopping to peer at us curiously. At night, I have watched a possum walking along the limbs. That oak tree is home to so many creatures and a thriving community is happening there, all without our help. God cares for all of nature. 'The voice of the LORD makes the deer give birth' (Psalms 29:9).

Jesus told us that not even a small sparrow is forgotten by God. While Luke writes that five sparrows were sold for two pennies (Luke 12:6), Matthew writes that two sparrows were sold for one penny (Matthew 10:29). So if you bought two pennies worth of sparrows, you got an additional one free. Not even that free sparrow is forgotten by God.

Have you ever felt the Lord has forgotten you? I certainly have had times when I felt like that, but we are not to live by our feelings alone. The righteous will live by faith (Hebrews 10:38). Feelings change like the wind, while God's word stands forever. His word is our anchor. Even the hairs on your head are all numbered (Matthew 10:30).

You may feel like the Lord does not care, but He wants you to know that He does care. You may feel that He doesn't know, but He wants you to know that He does know. You may feel that you have been forgotten, but He wants you to know that He will never forget His wonderful child.

So often we get concerned about this or that, when actually Jesus is the real answer to it all. We seek the desires of our heart directly, but God told us 'Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart' (Psalm 37:4).

The Lord knows exactly where you are today, you are not forgotten, His door is always open, and He wants you to trust Him. As you seek Him, your needs will be taken care of automatically (Luke 12:31) just as the birds of the air. In God we trust.

Prayer: Heavenly Father I thank You so much for loving me. I am sorry for my lack of trust when things get difficult. Please strengthen me, speak to me in a way that I understand and help me build a deeper relationship with You, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray

Note: "if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land." (2 Chron 7:14). If you have a prayer need, we are here for you! We and the prayer team are ready to lift you up at our private prayer page: RHM Prayer Network

This was perfect for me today. I read it after I woke up, had just been praying about my vet visit this morning for my 18 year old cat Whiteheart. Praying that he would get help for his arthirtis and that it wouldn't be too expensive for me. It seemd like the Lord was reassuring me. And the vet visit was less than I feared, the vet gave him a cortisone injection which should help a lot and despite some other issues like a small heart murmur and catarats, he is in good shape, especially for 18 years old. :)  Praising God for taking care of me and my furbabies! <3
