The End is Nigh

  • But while they were all marveling at everything he was doing, Jesus said to his disciples, Let these words sink into your ears: The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men. But they did not understand this saying, and it was concealed from them, so that they might not perceive it. Luke 9:43 ESV

Jesus told His disciples, Let these words sink into your ears: The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men., but they did not understand it. Even though this was a very clear statement, they were convinced that Jesus was going to be the next king and deliver Israel from the Roman occupiers.

HIs disciples were filled with wonder at everything that He was doing and were completely blind to what was soon coming. They had it wrong. Jesus was handed over to the Romans and crucified, but resurrected Himself on the third day. The disciples did not understand how or why, but it worked out anyway.

I had so many questions when I really began seeking the Lord and studying the Bible in depth. I was confused about so many things, the rapture, pre-tribulation, mid-tribulation, post-tribulation, the millennium. My wall was covered with charts and timelines as I tried to work it all out. I concentrated most of my Bible study in Revelation, Daniel and Matthew 24. My room was beginning to look like a scene from A Beautiful Mind.

One Sunday morning, the Lord spoke to me through a visiting speaker that I had never met. I knew that it was God speaking and I was burning and tingling all over. He called me up in front of the church and said, "Son, you don't need all the things to fit. Just allow your purpose and Mine to knit. And don't be so concerned about the end of the book, go back to the beginning and take another look". It changed my outlook, my focus, and my life became much simpler. Now I let Him worry about it.

Know today that you do not need to worry about how all of this fits together or how it is going to work out. You do not have to understand it all. Just let your purpose align with God and let Him take care of the details. He has a better view up there than we do, and if it matters, He will tell you. We have a job to do while we are here. Let us focus on that.

Twila Stierwalt
Twila Stierwalt So true, God is in charge and does show us just what we need to know, to live for Him a day at a time, We are not to worry about tomorrow, because today has enough troubles of it's own. It doesn't mean to not study the things we don't understand, but to know that God is going to work it all out, and to just be in the word and trust that God will reveal to us all that we need to know.

Yada (Wendy)
Yada (Wendy) Hahaha so resonating. I have joked about getting a place with my beautiful mind shack many times. Replete with tacks and decked with strung twine. I can *feel* the frustating of the understanding. I can see the prophesy much still seemingly unfulfilled in every book of the bible. Use it as a mirror in our joke of scholarly "history books" and it's mind boggling to a horrifying degree. I had to take a break because I felt like I was about to start "gnawing the grass" lol. Also I am rather irritated with our Father about words in Ecclesiastes regarding the works He has given man under the sun to keep us busy & distracted so we can't even reach for the level of understanding my mind, heart & soul are burning for. Also, this prevention is referred to in Isaiah. Argh! I would totally make history and prophesy my life's devotion if I had my say. Mortgages are damnable in scripture anyway. Lol. Thanks for sharing:)

Joan Joseph
Joan Joseph Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths (Prov. 3:5-6). Trust in him and let Jesus figure it out. It's so much easier.

Nancy Cavataio I listened to Pastor Lutzer of Moody Bible Institute here in Chicago yesterday on the radio, and he said we don't have to know the whole picture, God knows it. It was a great sermon, and it's ironic it goes with Pastor Dion's message today.

Deleted Member Amen, I found myself worrying about so many things over the weekend, I became overwhelmed, so I finally just said Lord Jesus I can't handle it anymore and I need you to take care of these things for me and I had to leave it there, because I was physically and emotionally drained. So Jesus is handling it all for me. Praise God is always right there.

Shannon Payne Wow I absolutely love these devotionals everyday. They hit home for me every time...my situation w/ my daughters dad has become more positive lately thou causes worry because I am not sure of his intentions. I've been thru this rollercoaster with him for almost 4 yrs now and I am not ready to jump into any kind of relationship w/ him or any man for that matter..I am still finding my place my purpose in this life. So this was right on for me. I am doing my best to let go of the worry and just let God handle it...

Nell Neathery
Nell Neathery Amen!  Focusing on keeping it simple..."let go, let God,"  "Don't worry, be happy!"  "Worry is like a rocking chair as it will get you nowhere!"  I have been blessed in my new life since 2012 to be able to live in a 2nd floor apartment since Jan. 19, 2014, with only 2 windows in my bedroom and office that look outside to the north...this living here has taught me so much and helped me to grow in faith, hope, and love by trusting and obeying God.  I have read the "Upper Room" devotionals, and with that, I dedicated this apartment to my upper rooms.  Now, the end is nigh for me to move on where there will be 4 windows in my living room and my kitchen downstairs and in my bedrooms upstairs where I will be able to look to the east in the morning to enjoy the sunrise and to the west in the evening to see the sunset.  Forecast for the "end nigh:"  God reigns, the Son shines.  I will continue to Ask the Holy Spirit, Listen to the Holy Spirit, and Follow the Holy Spirit in Jesus' name.  Thanks for everything Pastor and Sylvia.  :-)

Albert Chau
Albert Chau Worry is like a bad habit or worst yet a sin showing our lack of faith. I have enough of that. When I wake up in the morning, I worry about the list of things I need to do and how do I go about getting them done. Things just got too complicated. Today devotion reminded me the KISS principle. Just Keep It Short and Simple, and let the Lord takes care the rest.

Yada (Wendy)
Yada (Wendy) Gracious Father, Your Son our King holds they key.  Please whisper at the walls surrounding the hearts of our men and bring them down like you did mine where I was inches from death and arose praising and lauding You, eternally grateful and reminded of the way that Your Love surrounded me and humbled me when I could not see Your faithfulness and had NO idea You were with me and hadn't abandoned me. Give us faithful and persistent hearts like Yours. Let us not give up hope or prayers for what seems impossible and unlikely because we know You are there. Even if our quenched hopes & prayers are unanswered today bless our hearts and minds with Your eternal vision and faith in our understandings that we so don't understand right now at all. Help us Love like You Love and *know* that when its killing us inside to do so we might be doing it right after all. Hallelujah Forever & Ever. Amen. <3

Deanna Hinds Karen, I've been in Genesis since the New year. I've a study guide which is 40 days but I am not hurry thru, as I want to absorb all that The Book Of Genesis has to offer. I have my study Bibles, commentary and the power of the Holy Spirit who leads me. I'm really enjoying studying the Bible this way. My goal is to study each book of the Bible this way with no time limits. I may jump to the New Testament as the Lord leads.

Daryl Page
Daryl Page Sometimes we are so caught up chasing the activity of The Lord we miss The Lord of the activity. As a pastor I've often found myself running here n there to try and make sure I didn't miss or over look something Then as time past I realized I needed to stop chasing n sit at The Masters feet I needed to get comfortable with His voice n know that as long as I was breathing there will always be opportunities to serve with my Lord. Maybe open a door say kind word n watch n see where things may lead perhaps to sharing the gospel with the very person u opened the door for and watch them come to know Christ as saviour. Yet always return back to the feet of the Master One Love. LOG. PD
