The Break Room

  • Whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when He comes in His glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. Luke 9:26 NIV

The break room fell silent as I walked in to get some water. Though I was new there, I had learned that the normal topics were hangovers, sexual exploits, or who had the best drugs. The normal stream of profanity ceased when I entered the room.

It had all started when I said a blessing over my lunch. They seemed unsure about what to make of that. Sometimes they taunted me and I would quote scripture back to them, like Every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord.

I was certainly not trying to force my religion on them. Sadly at the time, I did not care if the whole crowd went to hell. I was in survival mode and it was an every man for himself point in my life. They would have to get to heaven as best they could. I was just trying to make it in myself, but I would not hide the fact that I knew Jesus. I may have been going through hell, but I was hanging on to God while doing it.

In time, several of the people there came to the Lord and started coming to church with me. How do you boldly stand for Jesus? Picture Him there with you. You can stand with Him, or be ashamed of Him, but He is there either way.

Peter denied knowing Jesus three times, but that doesn't have to be you. Dont chase people with a Bible who are not ready, but when they corner you dont be ashamed to say, "Yes, I know Him, what about you? You are one heartbeat from meeting Him. Think about it."

Prayer: Father, I pray that you give me a boldness to take a stand for You when confronted. Fill me with Your strength and give me anointed words to speak, in the name of Jesus.

Kathy Banfield
Kathy Banfield Oh how I can relate! The worst job I ever had (before I got my Nursing license) was working in a factory that made plastic bags; hardly anyone there spoke English, and you wouldn't believe the stares I got when I made a futile attempt to brighten the break-room during Christmas season! They all behaved as if I were from another planet! It's really funny now, when I think back. But it was NOT at all humorous at the time. Have a blessed Sunday everyone! The Lords' Day is amazingly bright and sunny here in NJ!

Twila Stierwalt
Twila Stierwalt This is the best devotion. I was just reading about Timothy's Grandmother, Lois and his Mother, Eunice. Help me LORD  to pass down a heritage of faith, like they did.I want others to be able to boast to You about my perserverance and faith in any persecutions and trials I endure.

Deleted Member This really touched my heart. I know as a teenager I stood for Christ and sometimes teased because of what I stood for. But years later as an adult I had some of my friends to come to my house one day and apologize for picking on me in school and they said that I had made an impact in their lives. For that I am so thankful that they did see Jesus in me.

Carol Pady Amen!  He has pushed me to speak to others and even though I don't know if they were open to my conversation, I did feel good that I had not ignored His small still voice. Perhaps  the seed we plant is all that is needed, we don't know what In their lives will bring it to grow.

Nell Neathery
Nell Neathery Thank you Pastor Dion...my first devotional to read for this new week, and I don't remember how long it has been since I read the previous one.  I came to my home page and saw that the Devotional was next door to Home, so that is where I clicked after posting 3 posts on my home page.  I have not forgotten office politics, and I do not like them as I have enough trouble with governmental politics.  But I am on the right road, confessing to know Jesus as my personal Savior without the politics.  His law is the only one I want to follow!  PIcture Him:  as the song goes "I can only imagine!"  and there is another song about being a "heartbeat away," but that is from my 1970 high school days, I think.  I share your prayer with you on this new day of the week for my new journey of a lifetime at 10:28 AM on 4/26/2015.  My break room includes God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.  :-)

Cheryl Hepler I haven't worked in years outside what goes with homemaking.  I remember a big company I worked in & things you said Pastor.  One said, "Oh Cheryl's here so let's move back to other aisle".    They knew yet many came to talk & ask for prayer of concerned love ones.  It was nice. Jesus reign!

Angela VIlinskis
Angela VIlinskis Dion, I really appreciate how "real" you are with your walk with God.  I had to laugh when you were so honest about your attitude toward your coworkers, because in our walk THIS is how it is.  We don't come to Christ perfect, it is a little growth every day.  I think relationship with God is sometimes made to be so "fancy" for lack of a better word.  I remember condemning a friend in her 20's for listening to secular music and couldn't figure out why she was so offended...20 years later I get it, I was an idiot :)...an idiot who loved God, but wasn't mature in how to share that, so I laugh about it now.  I think God is proud of us that we even want to pursue a relationship with him and give us ALOT of grace along the way, and I think it's important for others to realize we are ALL loved but we are ALL a work in progress, it's not about being perfect it's about our willingness to connect with our father and let him guide us, and obey when he asks us to do something and trust in the transformation that is happening even if it we don't necessarily feel it.

Dion Todd
Dion Todd Yes, thinking back over my feeble attempts at aggressive witnessing makes me think about something else. I have won more people to the Lord by just gently following the Holy Spirit and not even being interested in how they lived their life. In time, they came to me for prayer after they got to know me as a friend that loved God. People don't care what you know until they know how much you care. :)
