Joseph said to his brothers, 'I am Joseph! Does my father still live?' His brothers couldn't answer him; for they were terrified at his presence. Joseph said to his brothers, 'Come near to me, please.' They came near. 'He said, I am Joseph, your brother, whom you sold into Egypt. Now don't be grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life.' Genesis 45:3 WEBJoseph was sold into slavery when he was a youth, by his own brothers. Then he spent time in prison for a crime that he did not commit, but Joseph continued to serve God and use the gifts in his life wherever he found himself. Joseph was of exceptional character and the Lord was with him. He did not become filled with bitterness and spend his time sulking in a corner, licking his wounds, feeling sorry for himself. Joseph did not get overcome by past events, because that is all that they were, events that happened in the past.
Joseph became the ruler over Egypt and the day came when his brothers stood before him hungry and in need. When he was given the opportunity to get even with them, Joseph pardoned them and let them go. He knew that God was in control of his life. He told them 'God sent me before you to preserve life.'
When you have bitterness against someone else, it is like drinking poison and thinking that it will hurt them, but it will only hurt you. Joseph could have become an angry, bitter person that no one wanted to be around. He could have refused to help the others around him because of what he had been through, but it would have cost him his destiny. Using his gifts to help others is what eventually freed him from prison.
When they do not want to live with you any longer, let them go. God has someone better waiting that will treat you right. When you wrongfully lose your job, let it go. Consider it a promotion, for God has a better one coming and you would have been unavailable.
When your family has treated you like trash, let it go. God has others that will love you in their place. Stay sweet and continue your love walk. Like Joseph, God is able to lift you above them, and they will have to look up to you one day.
When you feel that your entire life has been one long mistake, let it go. Turn to God and He will wash you as white as snow and give you a fresh start. Hold onto God every day, but let go of the events that happened in the past.
Prayer: Heavenly Father I pray that You give me the grace to let go of my past. I want to serve You Lord and to walk in all that You have for me today. One phrase was .. while we(you) hold on to a grudge or negative attitude the other person (s) are out there tap dancing...no care(s). That made sense in the illusration that I can be poisoning myself. Lord set Jesus free. Can't change people, places or things. All is God's job. Thr Lord opeene up great doors... thank You Lord!
