The Sound of Music

  • and they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up. Then the herald cried aloud, 'To you it is commanded, peoples, nations, and languages, that whenever you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music, you fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king has set up. Whoever doesn't fall down and worship shall be cast into the middle of a burning fiery furnace the same hour. Daniel 3:3 WEB

Three Hebrews stood before a giant golden idol that was ninety feet high and were commanded to bow down and worship it when the music began to play. It was a direct violation of God's law to do this, but everyone around them seemed to be doing it. The Hebrews refused to worship the idol and they were thrown into a fiery furnace, but God delivered them out of it and they were not burned.

Thousands of others just worshiped the idol like they were told, when the music began to play. It is interesting that they were only required to worship this golden image when the music played. Ninety-nine percent of the time, their life went on as normal. It was a trigger, when you hear the music, you must do this.

Have you ever had something that only popped up at certain times in your life and you felt almost powerless against it? You were so certain, once again, that you had beaten this and put it behind you. Then the music played, and you did it again. It is like the enemy has a small music box in our pocket that he can open, and then something dark drops over us.

There is hope, for if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed (John 8:36). Jesus brings light into the darkness. It is simply a pop test: 'Are they ready for the next level? I guess not.' God understands this and is patient with us. It is just a test. When you stumble, get up, repent, and move on, again. Don't give up on God. Don't give up on life. One day God will set you free from this and when the music plays nothing will happen, but until then, you must get up and keep going.

Prayer: Heavenly Father please set me free from the things that hold me, and burn the iniquity out of me. I thank You that there is still hope and that Your mercy is renewed each morning. Wash me and I will be clean. Take away the music box. Fill me with Your Spirit and give me the mind of Christ, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Note: Happy Monday! The highlighted group of the week is, "Broken Families", a private group (all are welcome, but only group members see the posts) to support those who have been hurt by unwanted separation and dysfunction in their family life. The hurts may be felt the most keenly during this holiday season, so we encourage you who may be suffering to join us. ALSO, the Creation Photographers fun theme for the week is "A Parade of Lights", based on Matthew 5:16! As always, you are free to post anything else that inspires you, too! This Word couldn't be more dead on for me!!!  It was literally music that put my mind in a bad place & the enemy had control over the music box.  I can only say, I love my RHM family!!!!!!!

This devotional brings to mind the triggers that prompted me to light up a Newport when I used to be a smoker! I'm so grateful God delivered me from that nasty habit!

Amen! I believe you have hit the nail on the head hard and strong with this one. I think we all feel we are the only ones that let the Lord down when the music plays. We may feel unworthy of the Lords forgiveness and readyto give up the fight. Thank you for listening to the Holy Spirit and obeying.

I most definitely needed this!  I was always taught from the church growing up that if you fall...that's it, you've messed up and God is angry with you and now you more or less have to offer sacrifice in some way to be forgiven.  You just can't ask for fogiveness if you knew not to do wrong and did it anyway.

This has truly opened my eyes that God still loves me when I fall.  I love my children and grandchildren when they mess up, I don't just stop but I try to teach them not to do it again or tell them why not to.  I will try again to pass the "pop test"....

Been there and done that for a while. Thinking what's the point, when my life went from bad to worse. I felt like the better part of me was ripped away and then realized I had no control over the situation what so ever. Then, Father God told me that HE did. HE's been teaching me ever since and only with His help have I been able to pass any test and get back up when I have fallen...........
