Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow. They don't toil, neither do they spin, yet I tell you that even Solomon in all his glory was not dressed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today exists, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, won't he much more clot...

The disciples were filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit. Acts 13:52 WEBWhile at the beach one day, I watched some kids playing with a beach ball. They would hit the ball and it would soar into the air, but then gradually float back down to the earth. Without some form of lift, the ball will alwa...

The Journey from Refreshing Hope Ministries on Vimeo. Today I want to talk about the journey of life. Our thinking is often consumed with what is happening today, or tomorrow, or sometimes what happened yesterday. God thinks in the long term. He can see our entire life at once. Think of it like t...

Cuts Like A Knife

  • Now he who betrayed him had given them a sign, saying, 'Whomever I will kiss, that is he. Seize him, and lead him away safely.' When he had come, immediately he came to him, and said, 'Rabbi! Rabbi!' and kissed him. They laid their hands on him, and seized him. Mark 14:44 WEB

It was now dark. Jesus and the disciples had finished their last supper, sang a hymn together, and then went to pray in the Garden of Gethsemane as He often did. Judas Iscariot, who had just been with them at supper, now showed up with an armed group of men to arrest them. Their friend, had suddenly became their enemy.

Judas walked over and kissed Jesus on the cheek to let the guards know who they were to arrest. This really hurt. One of His own, one of the twelve that He had picked out of thousands, had now betrayed Him. Jesus had a purpose, and Judas played an ugly part in bringing that about. It was not pretty, but it accomplished the will of God.

Jesus took our sin away on the cross, and He suffered for it so that we would not have to, but other things that He went through were an example for us. Betrayal is something that most of us will experience at some point in life, and it hurts.

If this happens to you, do what Jesus did: Stay focused on your purpose and forgive the betrayer as quickly as possible. Do not delay God's work and get sidetracked or filled with bitterness, even though it cuts like a knife. God will take care of the betrayer in due course. We reap what we sow.

Prayer: Heavenly Father I know that You have a plan and a purpose for me, and I choose to follow You today. Please help me see past the wrongs in my life, and to focus on what You are doing instead. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Note: "Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need." (Hebrews 4:16) If you are in need of prayer, please feel free always to send your requests to our prayer network, where we and the team will be honored to lift you up! This message arrived to me just when I needed it most; I was recently betrayed by someone who I thought was sincere. It turned out she was only looking out for her own interests! I thank you so much for today's timely devotion!
