They were all astonished at the majesty of God. But while all were marveling at all the things which Jesus did, he said to his disciples, 'Let these words sink into your ears, for the Son of Man will be delivered up into the hands of men.' But they didn't understand this saying. It was concealed fro...

Good Neighbors from Refreshing Hope Ministries on Vimeo. Today I want to talk about the importance of being a good neighbor. Ever since Adam and Eve had kids and one killed the other, it has been an ongoing thing, learning to live with one another. Most of the ten commandments are about how we tr...

When I kept silence, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy on me. My strength was sapped in the heat of summer. Selah. I acknowledged my sin to you. I didn't hide my iniquity. I said, I will confess my transgressions to Yahweh, and you forgave t...

While I Breathe, I Hope

  • Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful. Heb 10:23 NIV

My home state of South Carolina carries this inscription on the state seal: Dum spiro spero. In Latin, this phrase means "While I breathe, I hope". This is a profound statement because where there is hope, there is life and where there is no hope, there is no life. That is the goal of Refreshing Hope Ministries, to refresh your hope each day.

Hope is incredibly powerful at driving away doubt, fear, darkness, and discouragement. Despair is the complete loss or absence of hope. Most of us know what despair sounds like because we listen to it all day in our minds, trying to beat us down, trying to get us to give up our hope, to discourage us and get us to stop.

Hope is like the sunlight that chases away the darkness. Hope says, "This will turn out well for me. Something good is coming my way. I will beat this, I will be healed. They will be OK. This is not the end. I will be a better person! God has got a plan for me and I am going to see this through. I will overcome and my breakthrough is coming soon! This enemy is going down!"

Do not give up your hope in the goodness of God during the dark times. It is all that you have left. God is going to do the things that He has promised you. He is completely faithful and has nothing but the best intentions for you. Even when this life is over, it is not the end. It will be the beginning of really living. The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me (Hebrews 13:6)? While you breathe, hope.

Joanne Leewood
Joanne Leewood I am in the process of redundancy, and with no husband or family to see me through the tough time I'm having, I take great comfort in these daily readings. I am finding that through them God is talking to me. Every day there seems to be a message 'just for me'. I also read UCB's Daily Word & feel God is speaking tom me through there too. Such words of love, encouragement & hope have really helped me through this difficult time. And the amazing thing is I'm not in total panic mode - I know God is with me and will guide me in the right direction. He has great things planned for me, I'm excited about the future. Thank you Pastor Todd

Kathy Banfield
Kathy Banfield Oh did I ever need to hear these words today! I was so upset, I woke up at 2 a.m, unable to go back to sleep because I was worried about the events of today.(It seems Satan always sneaks into my thoughts during the night, when I'm trying to sleep) Anyhow, I did open my Bible and read Genesis and Exodus again. Talk about hope! Just imagine what those enslaved Israelite s felt like both during the time of Pharaoh's unjust behavior, to the 40 years they spent traveling to the promised land! I was able to go back to sleep, and just woke up AGAIN a short while ago. I didn't even have my morning coffee yet--this ministry is more important to me. THANKS!

Barbara Mango
Barbara Mango Thanks for strengthening the case for hope, because without hope, we would have despair and lose touch with all of the blessings that God has in store for us.

Paula Andrews
Paula Andrews I needed to hear this today. Sometimes I feel like I can't take any more but I know that this comes from satan and not from God. When I pray I know satan will be defeated. Jesus is my Lord and Savior and he is always with me in Jesus name I pray. Amen

geneva miller Hope is the light in this ever darkening world. I see people daily that are running full speed ahead from God, and as much as i try, i can not understand it, it truly boggles my mind. I dont wanna gain the whole world and lose my soul, that line in the song is forever imbedded in the depth of my very soul, nothing this world has to offer even comes close to my Father who art in Heaven......

Debbie Bible
Debbie Bible Beautiful message today. When I was first diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, I had very little hope, but as I began opening my heart to God's word and particularly Pastor Dion's daily devotionals that began to change. I will be 3 years out in May and just got a great report from MD Anderson. Even though I still take chemo, God gave and continues to give me hope. Even though he isn't done with me yet, I know that after I leave here something too wonderful to comprehend awaits!

Nell Neathery
Nell Neathery Thank you Pastor Todd and Mrs. Sylvia:  "my hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness."  I like the word refreshment.  I have a book of devotionals by Janice Hanna called "Everyday Love...Spiritual Refreshment for Women."  I have learned to have hope, faith and love through this book along with other books, including several prayer journals and other journals I have written in spiritually and inspirationally.  I have not given up on hope as Pastor Todd says because God has not given up on me.  I am on journey down the road toward everyday love with Him. I have a praise for a miracle in my life that happened a few minutes ago this morning and will slowly announce it on my page.

Twila Stierwalt
Twila Stierwalt This was such a good and true devotional. Hope is powerful. My hope is in Christ. I have to have faith and believe this and then put this into action. No matter what my circumstances are, He is faithful to do what He says He will do. He does drive away dought, fear, darkness, and discouragement. Yes my hope is in Christ, and I choose to believe Him. Thank you Pastor Dion for these messages God has given you to share with so many.

Cheryl Hepler
Cheryl Hepler Yes, hope is great in your hope of what this ministry is about.  God is hope .....the door in the valley of Achor or in Message it says Heartbreak Valley into Aches of Hope.  Eugene Peterson of Message has his own way of describing.  In the valleys I have found & find myself in this door of hope is Jesus at the mention of His name I know He is present & need to call out "help" get me out of this stinkn' thinkin'.  Need to read & remember His love for me.  I am talking to myself now.  A friendship ended with us of a man & wife we cared of & know it is God's hands, my dog with good health is down in her spirit since yesterday & now today, my feelings about it all ( mostly the friendship) is a loss with grief.  My old junk under the blood has tapes in my mind rolling for it is an anger issue in someone who can not see it as my Dad was an angry person strongly to live with.  So I will fill my heart with reading His Word trusting to believe I will climb out of this valley.  Thanks to this ministry...it is God's lifer line?

Cheryl Hepler Yes, it is true.  Even though the veil was tornwhen Christ died there still is over their eyes.  For family & friends to pray The Lord will come to see as I did in my wild days.  What a great day it was when I could see all washed off thru thru the power of his love.
