You see then that by works, a man is justified, and not only by faith. In the same way, wasn't Rahab the prostitute also justified by works, in that she received the messengers and sent them out another way? For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from works is dead. James...

However you are just in all that is come on us; for you have dealt truly, but we have done wickedly; neither have our kings, our princes, our priests, nor our fathers, kept your law, nor listened to your commandments and your testimonies with which you did testify against them. For they have not ser...

However, what things were gain to me, these have I counted loss for Christ. Yes most assuredly, and I count all things to be loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus, my Lord, for whom I suffered the loss of all things, and count them nothing but refuse, that I may gain Christ and be...

Let There Be Light

  • For you will light my lamp, Yahweh. My God will light up my darkness. For by you, I advance through a troop. By my God, I leap over a wall. As for God, his way is perfect. Yahweh's word is tried. He is a shield to all those who take refuge in him. Psalm 18:28 WEB

Total darkness is the complete absence of light. In scripture it is associated with gloom, despair, and terror as well as the normal meaning of no light. When you remove all light, what you are left with is darkness. Humans cannot distinguish color when it grows dark and as the light fades, colors become gray, and eventually black.

One of the curses on Egypt was a darkness that could be felt. It was an oppressing, heavy, thick darkness, and no one even moved out of their spot for three days, but there was light in the houses of God's people (Exodus 10:22). This darkness was the complete absence of light.

'Let there be light' was one of the first things that God did in Genesis (1:3). Jesus told the people: 'I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life' (John 8:12).

Life is fragile. As people, we like to think that we have it all under control, but I have been on top of the world one day, and under it the next, feeling crushed.

One phone call, and a darkness like this can settle over us, one that can be felt. The light of God's presence will drive away the darkness, just as turning on a light in a dark room. When the Lord lights your lamp, the darkness flees.

If your life is in a dark place today, look to the Lord Jesus. When you cannot seem to move out of it, it is He who will bring the light into the darkness. He can meet you right where you are, and His light can drive away the darkness and restore the color to your world. Jesus is the answer.

Prayer: Heavenly Father I look to You today. Please bring Your light into my life and drive away the darkness. Fill me with Your presence, restore my hope, and give me a fresh vision for my life, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.
