The Cutting Edge

  • It happened in these days, that he went out to the mountain to pray, and he continued all night in prayer to God. When it was day, he called his disciples, and from them he chose twelve, whom he also named apostles Luke 6:12 WEB

Even though Jesus was the son of God, He prayed a lot. He continually developed His relationship with His Father. Intimacy and infinite knowledge were not freely given to Him, He had to work at it. Jesus was tested in all ways, just like us, but without sin (Hebrews 4:15). Jesus did not pray once at the beginning of His ministry, but often withdrew to have some quiet time to pray and listen. Jesus was on the cutting edge, because He stayed in tune with what the Father was doing.

All of us have heard or read messages that felt like they were meant for us, directly from God. We have also heard others that seemed dated, irrelevant, or boring. When the apostles spoke, the people listening were: 'cut to the heart' (Acts 2:37, Acts 5:33, Acts 7:54) because they sharpened themselves in prayer:

'When they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were gathered together. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness' (Acts 4:31).

If you want your words to be relevant today, to walk on the cutting edge, then you will have to spend time in prayer as well. Even taking a few minutes to talk to the Lord will help shape your day, brighten your outlook, and encourage those around you. There is an infinite well of resources, wisdom, knowledge, forgiveness, grace and mercy, that we can access, and it all starts with prayer.

Any relationship that stops talking will slowly but surely die, while relationships that talk a lot grow in strength. We have all had friends that we lost contact with because we ceased talking at some point. Most often, we just get too busy with our daily life to maintain a strong relationship with very many people at a time, and we keep a special few. Be sure that the Lord is in your inner circle.

Today, be sure to spend a few minutes alone with God in prayer, if nothing more than to tell Him good morning and thank You for letting me wake up again. It is a daily thing that you should get in the habit of doing, and you have to start somewhere. If you want to grow closer to the Lord, take a few minutes to talk to Him each day. Jesus did.

Prayer: Heavenly Father I thank You for always being there and I am sorry that I am not always as faithful as I could be. Draw my heart to You and fan the flames within me. Sharpen me Lord. For the sake of the world, light a fire within me. Help me be steadfast, graceful, loving and merciful today, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lordseeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.

I have spent a lot of time on a website called Quora.com, it just amazes me how few people acually know there is a God. The Bible says in Hebrews 11:6; But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Has religon mess up following God to the point that most people do not even realize there is a God? Lord, help everyone to know!

I believe that God does want a personal relationship with me, that means I must spend time with Him. My prayer is to be alone with Him every day, to get to know Him, and His will for my life.

Amen. I begin the day talking to my Father and thanking Him, then I talk to Him all day long as I go about my daily work. Just speaking to Him, though most of the time it is only me doing the talking, makes me feel closer to Him. Then when He speaks to me through a devotional, a Bible verse or an answered prayer, it only further develops my dependence upon Him.

Lately I can't get enough of God if anything tries to crowd out my time with the Lord I feel really empty.I try now not to let anybody take place of my fill up time I call it because without it I have nothing to pour into people and feel unable to really pour into people who need me for whatever reason.I can do all things through Christ who stregthens me and that for me is shutting myself in with the Lord and letting noone come between that need for Christ fill up and so at times I shut everyone else out to get what I need from the Lord or else I cannot give out because I on a empty tank otherwise. Seems selfish at times but I really don't care anymore I feel Lord says to me pour into me and than you can pour in others afterwards but the lord must be first.

Yes that is so true Chris, the Lord God HAS to be first in all things and in all areas of our lives before anyone else! Glad you are spending more time with God! I love you! <3

I don't think that's selfish, Chris! Besides the obvious, you will not be what you need to be for your friends, without that time with Him, so better to just let them wait <3.
