  • Now after these things, the Lord also appointed seventy others, and sent them two by two ahead of him into every city and place where he was about to come. Then he said to them, "The harvest is indeed plentiful, but the laborers are few. Pray therefore to the Lord of the harvest, that he may send ou...

Let no man say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God," for God can't be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each one is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed. Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin; and the sin, when it is full grown, brings forth dea...

Walk a Mile in Their Shoes

  • Therefore you are without excuse, O man, whoever you are who judge. For in that which you judge another, you condemn yourself. For you who judge practice the same things. Romans 2:1 WEB

The congregation grew silent as the elder finished his speech on judging others. He told us that each time that he had looked at another's mistakes and said 'I would never do that', that later he found himself doing just that.

He was now in his late seventies, and he said that he thought that he had completed his list. Everything that he had said that he would never ever do, he had ended up doing. Admittedly, he was considerably ahead of those of us who were still working on it.

It took me a long time to learn that what I so hated in others, was often because they were a mirror of what was in me. It amazes me how self righteous we can feel while looking down on someone else. Every time that I have placed myself above someone else's sin, what they had came to visit my own house.

Save yourself loads of embarrassment and laps around the mountain by biting your tongue before you say anything bad about what someone else is doing. Let God correct the sin in peoples lives. If you have to correct someone, do it in the kindest possible way. Help them get up and restore them. Picture yourself in their shoes because you are capable of the same thing.

Prayer: Heavenly Father I pray that You help me see past the mistakes of others. Fill me with Your love and let me restore those that have lost their way. Give me words of wisdom and the right attitude so that I can be a help, and not a hindrance, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

This is such a commonly used issue and to often said, sometimes we really don't think about saying something in a judging way until the Lord reminds us. Look in your own mirror and repeat what was said. One of the things I am guilty of is.. ("Well I don't mean to be  judgmental ,but". ) That is even a warning for me and I'm guilty of saying it anyway. Lord, please help me to put a guard on my mouth and please forgive me for the times I spill out my words anyway. Amen

What a good lesson, I pray that God controls my mouth, and that I say nothing until I can walk in their shoes, then only what the Spirit tells me to say.

It's a fine line sometimes with me in hating the sin I see others do in this world and casting about judgement towards people who revel in their own sinful lifestyles. But God has been working with me on this very issue. Through Holy Spirit and your message about it; helps remind me when I cross the line of judgement with anger added into the mix,to calm down and realize I have my own faults and weaknesses that He's helping me overcome. Also, to realize that not one human born into this world is perfect until we leave this place and God makes us perfect. Jesus' words always stick in the back of my mind about this,"He who is without sin, cast the first stone". Father God can help us all see others with a new perspective......

I think we often never consider the fact that we don't know what has brought others to commit certain sins. We have no understanding of the circumstances or relationships in their lives that have caused them to stumble. If we could see into their lives as our Abba Father does, we would then know why it is that they are struggling with this sin. Then we would have a different point of view and feel the unconditional love of their Abba Father towards them. I believe we need to look past the sinful behavior and into the eyes of the broken child and pray that whatever is binding them will be broken, that they will be released from this sinful behavior and that they will become an obedient child of God.
