Yahweh said, 'I will destroy man whom I have created from the surface of the ground; man, along with animals, creeping things, and birds of the sky; for I am sorry that I have made them.' But Noah found favor in Yahweh's eyes. This is the history of the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time. Noah walked with God. Noah became the father of three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Genesis 6:7 WEBWhen the Earth had become totally corrupt and the thoughts of the people were only evil all the time, the Lord decided to start over. Only Noah was different from the rest. He was walking close to God, he was trying to do what was right, and therefore found favor in the eyes of the Lord.
Noah, his wife, his three sons, and their wives were spared and survived the coming flood. There were eight people saved through Noah's faith in God (1Peter 3:20, 2Peter 2:5). 'By faith, Noah, being warned about things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his house' (Hebrews 11:7).
Scripture does not mention that his wife was righteous, nor his sons, nor their wives. It only mentions Noah's relationship with God. When Lot was rescued from Sodom, his wife and daughters went out of the city with him.
Let us be like Joshua who said, 'And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD' (Joshua 24:15).
In 1 Kings 11:31, when the people began to backslide and Solomon turned away from following Him, God decided to divide Israel. He told Jeroboam that He would give him ten pieces (tribes), but because of His servant David, He would not give him all of it. David's life continued to affect how God treated his family line decades later. Isn't that amazing?
Serving God will affect those around you, and those that you care about. Your acts alone may not save them, but you will be a light and God will draw them. When things get bad they will begin to look to you for the answers. God can make you a lighthouse for those in need. Even a small candle light is bright when in complete darkness, and you may be the only light that those around you can see. So keep that light burning.

Amen!! As Jesus said, " I am the Light of th World." Let us ALL shine for each other, because Jesus lives in all of our lives, that is the true Blessing God has given us!!
Amen, Marisa <3!
For years I thought of the lighthouse as "I am the light of the world", in other words, "come into the light and be saved".
But that is wrong. A lighthouse says,"Stay away! DANGER! Come too close and you will be shattered on the rocks below!"
A candle on a lampstand illuminates an area so as to make sound decisions based on truth and wisdom. A light house doesn't illuminate, it alerts you of danger. I was so easily deceived. Be careful you don't make the same mistake.
Interesting thought, Martin! From the literal use of a lighthouse, I believe it can be either (from a quick Wiki search): "Lighthouses mark dangerous coastlines, hazardous shoals, reefs, and safe entries to harbors, and can assist in aerial navigation." From the viewpoint where we may wish to BE the light, let's attempt to be the one who is the safe harbor, rather than the marker of a place of danger. In looking out in the world, that is where His wisdom and discernment come into play, perhaps like the oceanic navigators would rely on both their charts and experience :).
Amen
A truly comforting word. Thank you.

Thank you Pastor Dion. Dear Lord, let me be a candle or a lighthouse to my family and friends.Let my light shine...It reminds me of an old song: Jesus bids us shine with a pure clear light. Like a little candle burning in the night. He looks down from Heaven to see us shine. You in your small corner and I in mine.
