I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. Psalms 32:8 NIVRecently when the Lord was ready to start something new in our life, He started closing out the old. Of course we panicked, tried giving more, praying more, fasting more, serving ...

Out of the same mouth comes blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. Does a spring send out from the same opening fresh and bitter water? Can a fig tree, my brothers, yield olives, or a vine figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh water. James 3:10 WEBHot, ti...

Let Freedom Ring

  • If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36 WEB

I took one last draw and put the cigarette out. That was over twenty years ago and it was the last time that I ever smoked. Not long before this, I had thought that smoking was a great pastime. Growing up on a farm in the South and working in tobacco, everyone that I knew smoked. Well, except for one strange guy, but no one wanted to be like him. By the age of ten I was smoking regularly, just like them.

Years later and while smoking about three packs a day, the Lord suddenly took the desire to smoke away from me. It is not that smoking was a sin, it was because I was in bondage to it and wanted to be free, but could not seem to break its power. Since then, I have never wanted another cigarette and they make me nauseous when I am around them now. He reversed my thought pattern. Something that I had thought was great, was now sickening to me. The Lord set me free.

Don't get stressed out when you fail while trying to quit something. Instead of struggling with it, pray for the Lord to remove your desire for it. Ask Him to set you free from it. Pray something like, "Lord I want to stop this, please take the desire away from me in Jesus name." Then give it time. The Lord can set you free from any bondage. When He sets you free, then you are free indeed.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I pray that You deliver me from the things that bind and control me. Break the shackles off of me and sever the ropes that hold me captive. I want to be completely free of the bad things in my life, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Thanks Pastor for sharing.  I was also delivered from smoking about 1 1/2 years ago now.  I really liked it and at the same time it was making me sick and very expensive. I did not want to stop, but God was clearly asking me to. After I asked for deliverance,  I still desired them, but the Lord WOULD not let me pick one up!  Now I have no desire.  Please pray for my son and husband as they both are still struggling to stop. I know our Father is able to do all things.  He has shown me this over and over and I give him ALL praise!!  Agape to all!

I began smoking when I was 16 to be cool. When I was 20 I had such a bad sore throat that it hurt just to drink water and I thought how that just didn't make sense so I put my cigarette out and never smoked again!(It was on my grandma's birthday )  I found out a few years later when I became a christian that my grandma had been praying for me to quit smoking!!

It was only through prayer and faith that I was able to overcome my eating disorder, and I firmly believe that God will listen to anyone who asks o be free of bondage.

WOW! Praise God this is amazing triumph for you and it is a true inspiration thanks Pastor Dion for sharing this with ua all <3 I would like to say My Husband stopped smokingone year and 5 months now and i quit directly after him. We were both needing to stop and God removed the desire for us but also, we found out he had a touch of emphysema so he said "I'm done" I said "Me 2" lol it was as quick as that and we had a few folks praying for us to break the bondage of smoking God answered quickly i am so grateful to. Now we are smoke free and we can save money or use the money for somthing else :) God is so good <3 I never knew it could be possible for me or let alone my Husband he was up to 2 sometimes 3 packs a day i would smoke 1/2 a pack a day. I was tired of it all and you are exactly right my Husband and I get physically sick when it is around us or if someone is smoking and the breeze hit's it just right and we can smell it i cover my nose with my shirt because i cannot stand the smell of it and people who are smokers is hard for us to be around because it smells so bad on them but anyways .... God made it possible and my Husband & I are so blessed too God bless you brother and you sweet wife she is such a doll we love yall <3 Great Devotional today as always :D

Amen, Pastor Dion, thank you for this important message. We all have our struggles, each one of us, and i pray that the Lord will help us all to overcome our struggles and to help us fulfill His plans for our lives. One question I do have though, is how exactly do we ask to be aligned with His will?
