And on the seventh day God finished his work that He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work that He had done. So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all His work that He had done in creation. Genesis 2:2 ESV
After coming home from church, I went straight to work on the new mail server. I kept hearing about not working on the sabbath day on my audio Bible and when I flipped the Bible open, that is where it would land. You would think I could take a hint, but I managed to brush it off week after week. After all, this was God's work and God does not want me to be lazy.
Today though, the work was like swimming in mud. What should have been a simple job, turned into a horrible ordeal. The machine seemed possessed. At the end of the day, I would have been ahead if I would have just stayed in bed. For a long time we would work on Sunday, but take off Monday or another day. This seemed fine. When I started working seven days a week, He cracked the whip.
I repented, said I was sorry, and the next day fixed the server in thirty minutes. Since then, I don't work seven days a week anymore and God has really blessed the other six.
When you feel the Lord speaking to you about something, listen. Don't be hardheaded like me. Can you have it your way? Absolutely. You will be much better off though, to go His way.
Prayer: Father, please bless the work of my hands and allow me to rest peacefully when I lay down. Help me get my work done in six days so I will not have to work seven, in the name of Jesus.
Amen!
Interesting... Occasionaly I have too work on Sunday!! for a busy life , in a busy world, I find it ever so difficult to not be busy on Sunday, getting things done.....
I remind myself that nurses & doctors work on Sundays & my best friend was given an emergency surgery that saved her life. God cares of our bodies & knows we are weak. Rest in doing something together or longing or walking our dogs in the park. Balance is a great word for me. I knew younger as a Mom ohhh I needed rest...lol. Blessings!
I so understand what you are saying and God bless..The true Sabbath is Saturday and GOD has not and will never change his word. The Catholic church changed it to Sunday for convience years and years ago but as Christains, I truly believe we need to acknowledge this and remember and keep the sabbath Holy whatever denomination we are ...Love a sister in christ Jesus
Amen.
Prayer: Father, please bless the work of my hands and allow me to rest peacefully when I lay down. Help me get my work done in six days so I will not have to work seven, in the name of Jesus. Amen!! We like our Sunday Bliss! To the mountains we go as often as possible to be one with God and nature;) thank you! God bless
AMEN! We all need a day of rest, it helps me to stay focused on my God.
Thank you, Pastor Dion, for being God's voice of instruction to me this morning. Teaching can be a 24/7 job--not His plan! Balance.
I try to be peaceful on the Lord's day so that I may be obedient. I know we are under grace not the law but God will guide our hearts by His principles.
Obedience is important to leading a healthy life. It may not seem like a lot of fun at first but His ways are higher than ours.
Thank you for this good reminder! God bless you in all you do.
Peace.
Amen!! Thank you Pastor Dion for todays daily devotion.
Prayer: Father, please bless the work of my hands and allow me to rest peacefully when I lay down. Help me get my work done in six days so I will not have to work seven, in the name of Jesus. Amen <3
I can relate to "swimming in mud"--at times, it seemed as if my work was never done! I really needed to hear these words today!
Thank you dear Pastor, for the beautiful message!
Amen. Amen. Amen. Praise God! Thanks Pastor Todd! Father, please bless the work of my hands and allow me to rest peacefully when I lay down. Help me get my work done in six days so I will not have to work seven, in the Name of Jesus. Amen.
In the Bible the Sabbath day is Saturday (an God has never changed this day, only man) and this is for all people not just the Jewish or SDA. The last day of rest has Always been Saturday but was changed by the Catholic church to Sunday. I think we all need to check this out for your selves and see this. I think it is very important since it is in the Ten commandments to Keep The Sabbath Holy and remember.
De Lynn,
Exactly. The verse reads, "Remember THE Sabbath," not A Sabbath. If the 10 commandments are law, and violation the law is sin, and the penalty for sin in death, why do so many risk death? And, if it is ok to violate one of the ten commandments, should it not be of ok to violate all of them.
well said and so true. I was shocked when I learned this when I was a baby christain because I was always preached Sunday and now adhere to Saturday but I go to church on Sunday because there are none that are open on Saturday...:(
Although the moral principles expressed in the commandments are reaffirmed in the New Testament, the command to set Saturday apart as a day of rest and worship is the only commandment not repeated. There are very good reasons for this. New Testament believers are not under the Old Testament Law (Romans 6:14; Galatians 3:24-25; 2 Corinthians 3:7, 11, 13; Hebrews 7:12). By Christ's resurrection on the first day of the week (Matthew 28:1), His continued appearances on succeeding Sundays (John 20:26), and the descent of the Holy Spirit on Sunday (Acts 2:1), the early church was given the pattern of Sunday worship. The early church met on Sunday regularly (Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 16:2). Sunday worship was further hallowed by our Lord who appeared to John in that last great vision on "the Lord's day" (Revelation 1:10). It is for these reasons that most Christians worship on Sunday, rather than on the Jewish Sabbath
The commandment to remember the Sabbath Day and keep it holy pre-dated Moses and the "Old Testament" law. God commanded Adam and Eve in the garden to remember the seventh day.
Genesis
1Thus the heavens and the earth were completed, and all their hosts. 2By the seventh day God completed His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. 3Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.
I have no problem worshiping the Lord 24/7. However there is no place in the bible that says the Sabbath is anyother day than the seventh day. The bible doesn't say that Crist rose on the third day, it says that on the third day they discovered the tomb was empty. Crist could have risen anytime between the time the stone was placed and the it was moved.
In Matthew 28 we learn that when the stone was moved an angel was sitting in His place. The angel tells the women there that Jesus has risen, but not when he rose. So, many just assumed he rose on the first day, but in fact there is no record of when he actually rose.
If that is the TEN COMMANDMENT it should be good both old testiment and new. If we do not have to adhere to the TEN because is was in the Old testement, why adhere to any? just asking? thank you and God bless :)
De Lynn, the answer in our Q&A is very detailed (http://www.refreshinghope.org/question/view/6/the-sabbath-day). If you take the time to read it and still are in disagreement, we may have to agree to disagree :)
Sunday for all Christians is the day Christ arose hallelujah!!
Also every day is the Lord's day so to live it for Him,
So true :)
God Rose on Sunday true(the First day) He rested on Saturday the Sabbath and they made sure to get him ready before Sundown Friday. The Catholic church declared Sunday as the day of worship and changed Gods commandments and not that anyone cannot worship on Sunday, I do too, but I rest on Saturday. :) Thank you sister Cheryl and God Bless.
De Lynn, I responded to your other post on this with a link to our official Q&A on the matter, but don't know if you saw it, so here it is, too: http://www.refreshinghope.org/question/view/6/the-sabbath-day. God bless!
Thank you for all of the replies. I really just want us to get along as brothers and sisters on Team Jesus and not dispute over days of the week. Those who believe in Jesus Christ are no longer under the law of Moses. The Sabbath was created to give mankind a rest from their labor: And He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.” (Mark 2:27 NKJV)
As for arguing about it, Paul wrote us: “One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind” (Romans 14:5 NKJV).
And again: “So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths” (Colossians 2:16 NKJV).
Personally we attend church on Sunday here, always have, and probably always will. If you go to our church on Saturday you will only find the janitor there. Also we are not the first to do this, Paul and the disciples met on the first day of the week (Sunday), had communion (the breaking of bread) and then he gave a message that lasted until midnight, so it was not forbidden. This was on Sunday and it sounds like a typical church service today, but it was called the "First day of the week" and not the "Sabbath day":
“Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight.” (Acts 20:7 NKJV)
For a couple of years, I had to work 12 hours every Saturday and Sunday and could only attend church services on Wednesday or Thursday. During that time, I learned to fellowship with God wherever I was and led several people to the Lord Jesus. For a while I played in the praise team at a Seventh Day Adventist church on Saturday, and then in my own church on Sunday morning. We do not have to look for reasons to disagree because we are still brothers and sisters in Christ. Taking a different day off to rest from work should not make us enemies.
I am sorry if you feel my posting was considered an argument. I just have to say it is the TEN COMMANDMENTS and I truly feel that needs no interpretation. The Sabbath is Saturday (The last day and the day the LORD RESTED) :) God Bless brothers and sisters
If you look at the names of the days of the week and their origins (here is a reference: http://www.crowl.org/lawrence/time/days.html), you will see they are named after things like the Sun, the Moon, and Norse and Greek gods. I don't believe it's very fruitful for the body of Christ to be divided over such things. As Cheryl Hepler mentioned in a comment below, her best friend was saved by a doctor who agreed to take a shift on Sunday, and thank God for that.
Thanks... Blessings to you and Sylvia
Amen
Amen!! Thank you Pastor Dion for you devotion on working on Sunday's. :-)

Thank you Pastor for sharing this with us.For I know we have all fallen short in this in our lives.
