How To Recognize the Holy Spirit from Jim Jarrell on Vimeo.
I have been reminded that I used a wrong word in my last video. I said that I hope to be able to teach everyone about this kingdom of God message. I am not a teacher, and if you will remember, I said when I started studying the Book of Galatians, God spoke to me and said He wanted to teach me. I am just a witness that this message is true, and it will work in your life just as well as it has mine. I am a living testimony to that truth.
The thing that attracted me to RHM in the first place, is that Pastor Dion talks with each of you through his own life experiences. That is what I am trying to do. I believe, if we are going to explain something we want to be believed, we should have lived the experience first. When God first started changing my life, He did not have much to work with. He saw things in me that I could not see. It has taken 25 years to bring me to a place where I can tell everyone God is so awesome. Hopefully, your life is not quite as messed up as mine was. I am not bold enough to tell you what God’s true plan is for each of your lives unless He tells me. I can tell everyone, you are not a mistake, and God does have a purpose for you. The Bible says in Ephesians 3:6; “And this is God’s plan; Both Gentiles and Jews who believe the Good News share equally in the riches inherited by God’s children. Both are part of the same body, and both enjoy the promise of blessings because they belong to Christ Jesus.” My goal is to inspire everyone to seek these promises in their own lives.
When Jesus died, He shed His blood to seal the New Covenant, and because you have chosen to believe in Jesus, everything He has promised, belongs to you. His promises are real, they are just provisional on you following His words. The Bible says in Mark 14:24; “And He said to them, This is My blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for many.” This is what Jesus said when He was teaching about the Lord’s supper. So what does the New Covenant say?
The New Covenant is explained in Hebrews 10:11-18 which you can read when ever you are able. But the New Covenant is better spelled out in Jeremiah 31:31-34 which says; “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah- not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt. My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them says the Lord. But this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying Know the Lord, for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.”
This is the covenant that Jesus shed His blood to seal. Your iniquity has been forgiven and your sin is no longer remembered. This is just how much God loves His people. The reason I used this scripture is found in verse 34, it says no longer shall a man teach his neighbor or every man his brother. After thousands of years of man trying to teach God’s ways, the traditions of men kept creeping in. So God in His wisdom decided to teach man Himself. There were plenty of religious teachers in Jesus’ day, but He chose His disciples from among the common folk. The Bible says in Luke 5:17; “Now it happened on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them.” You see, the teachers had come from all over, but Jesus chose His true Apostles from fishermen and tax collectors.
So, how would God teach us himself? The answer is in 1st John 2:27; “But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you, but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.” I have to ask you, could God have made it any easier for us? This anointing is the Holy Spirit and He lives inside every true believer. How does anyone receive this gift? Acts 2:38 says: “Then Peter said to them, Repent, and let everyone of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” According to this scripture, if you have received Jesus, repented and been baptized, the Holy Spirit is in you. You already have this anointing, now you have to learn to recognize when He is speaking to you.
Jesus said in John 14:15-18; “If you love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray to the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever- the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him, but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.” You see, this is a promise made by Jesus Himself, and you can count on it as sure as the sun will rise in the east.
In John 16:7-11 Jesus explains the Holy Spirit’s job. It says; “Nevertheless I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment; of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. I have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but what ever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine, and declare it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said He will take of Mine and declare it to you.”
By these verses, we can expect to learn how God wants us to live by His commandments. We just need to learn to feel the Holy Spirit convict us of sin and to know that we just did the right thing in His eyes. I can promise you this much, if you will put these scriptures to work in your life, your life will change! How quickly you will finish is directly dependent on the condition of your life. The next time, I will show you how I have learned to do these things.
