Blessed Are They That Hunger

  • Matthew 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

This is one of my favorite scriptures in the word of God because it denotes our desperate need to be well fed every day from the bounty of His goodness. Jesus is the bread of life and nothing can satisfy the human heart as He. He is the living bread that came down from heaven that gives food and spiritual nourishment to His needy people. God created man to be in need of Him because of His great love for us. He loves to pour himself into a hungry, thirsty heart but for us to experience this hunger we must cry out to Him to create it within us as we read in Phil 2:12 Why, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. 13 For it is God which works in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure.

We must cry out to the Holy Spirit to supernaturally empower us to draw closer to God every day because of the many distractions around us and because of our divided corrupted hearts. We must cry out because of our deep desperate need of His loving grace to invade and heal our broken lives and our scatter-brains because He is always willing to help those who realize their intense need for His divine intervention. We cannot pursue God in the strength of the flesh because we will always fall into frustration and disappointment. Call upon the passion of the Holy Spirit to fill your needy soul, call upon His holy fire to burn up the dross and the impurities within your heart and He will do it. Declare your great need of Him and He will meet you right where you are without finding fault or condemnation. The Lord is compassionate and gracious and loves to show himself strong when we acknowledge our desperate need for Him and if you find that you are not desperate enough for Him then ask Him to create desperation in you. This is one of the things that I love about God. He loves openness and honesty. If you are lacking in anything then He will create it within you, just humble yourself before Him and He will respond. Never be self-sufficient but choose to be a needy person before Him. This thing between us and God starts with humility and it ends with humility. It is not about your performance in your own strivings but it is about the empowerment of the Holy Spirit in your life to do all things according to the righteousness of Christ.

Also, you need to realize that to walk with God means to make sacrifices. The more He is allowed to clean up your life, the more room He will have to move. It is as simple as that. Surrender is the divine golden key to joyful bliss, enjoyment and true freedom in the Holy Ghost. Ask the Lord today to create a deep hunger and a thirst for righteousness within your heart because He will do it.

The mind of the flesh is a great hindrance and distraction to spiritual things and God by His indwelling Holy Spirit is the only one who has the power to enable us to pursue Him with great reverence. Remember that you cannot hunger and thirst after righteousness when you have any leanings toward the worldly and fleshly life because these things will always be a distraction and obstacle in pursuing the life in the Spirit. A spiritual believer is a person that is pre-occupied with things that pertain to life and godliness, it is a person who lives in agreement with the ways of God, it is a person whose mind is stayed on Him because he trusts in Him. A spiritual person is someone who has become the habitation of God. He is possessed and driven by the love of the Father and his only desire is to please the Lord. The thankfulness of his surrendered heart for what the Lord has done in providing his redemption echoes through eternity by the way in which he lives. Such a one lives a life in continual pursuit of God and he has his eyes fixed on Jesus the Author and the Finisher of his faith.

I love what the Lord said to me one day in speaking of maturity; An eagle cannot be bound by the limitations of the earth because it was created to soar on the winds of the heavens. Fleshly Christians live like chickens, bound and confined to the sphere of fleshly indulgence whereas those brought to maturity are authorized by the Father to spread their wings to be taken to the heights of the heavens. These have undergone the transformation process of a life lived in pursuit of God. They have been redeemed and freed from the chicken pen (life in the flesh) to be brought forth as beautiful eagles (sons of God) These enjoy the freedom of the heavens as they spread their wings daily to be taken up by the winds of His Spirit. Christians must stop cackling like chickens when God has ordained them to fly with the eagles. Maturity in Christ is to be freed from the influence and the desires if this world and to be satisfied by the life and the love of the Spirit.

Remember this principle, junk in, junk out. You will grow on what you feed on. Blessed are they who do hunger and thirst after righteousness for they shall be filled with the fullness of Him.
