Putting God First

What does it truly mean to put God first? To make Him your first priority? How does one accomplish this? This has been something I've seen a lot but have yet to decipher its meaning. Hopefully someone here at RHM can help shed some light on this for me.

Perhaps a decent picture of this idea is a parent and child. While not all of us may be parents, we possibly have had or at least known loving parents. We have a friend who is a single dad of a young daughter, whose wife is has made some bad life choices. Like the rest of us, he is not perfect, but in as much as a person can probably do, all of his thoughts and actions are about the benefit of his child. He tries to live honorably so she can be proud of him, overcame his own addictions so that he could properly care for her, works from his home so he could be her daycare, fought like a lion to keep her with him during custody battles, and lives in an area and goes to a church where she can have good influences.

If we put God first, our thoughts and especially our actions will be aimed towards keeping His commandments, representing Him well, and loving His people. Obviously, none of us do this perfectly. It's probable that in His eyes, most of us don't even do it very well, so good thing for grace and forgiveness :).

Maybe, in time, we all find our way to put God first in our lives and find ways to honor(or attempt to) Him by our actions and words. And I agree lol, very good thing that God is merciful and kind :)

For sure, God has given each of us our own distinct personalities, temperaments, skills and backgrounds. I would certainly be disappointed if he expected some cookie cutter way of connecting with Him :).
