Walking A Tightrope

Then the devil took him into the holy city. He set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, 'If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, 'He will command his angels concerning you,' and, 'On their hands they will bear you up, so that you don't dash your foot against a stone.' ' Jesus said to him, 'Again, it is written, 'You shall not test the Lord, your God.' ' Matthew 4:5 WEB

Some years ago, a man walked across Niagara Falls on a thin wire. It was windy and he had to balance himself with a pole that he carried as he made the twenty-five minute trip. It required careful balance and constant correction to stay on the wire. If he had leaned a little too far left, or too far right, he would have fallen. He had to stay balanced and centered.

The devil tried to get Jesus to prove that He was the Son of God by jumping off the temple. Though the scripture used by satan was true, in this case, it was used wrongfully. It was out of balance with the rest of scripture. The most believable lies always have an element of truth in them. We are to rightly divide the Word (2 Timothy 2:15) and test things against the whole body of scripture.

We need balance in every area. In your life, the enemy will always try to make you think too much of yourself, or too little. To work too hard, or not at all. To give nothing, or to give everything. The truth is in the middle, and not in one extreme or the other. It can be like walking a tightrope and making constant little corrections.

Prayer: Heavenly Father please help me find balance in my life. Let me see my priorities through Your eyes and make what is important to You, important to me. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray.
