The Dancing Preacher
You shall seek me, and find me, when you shall search for me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13 WEB
I had to get back to church early that afternoon because I was in the band and we needed to rehearse for the evening service. There was an evangelist from out of state visiting our church that day and when I got there, I unlocked the church door because I was the first to arrive, walked in and saw the strangest sight ever.
While everyone else had left after the morning service, he stayed behind, put on his headphones and began to worship God. When I opened the church door, he was dancing and spinning around the church with his arms in the air like King David (2Samuel 6:14, 1Chronicles 15:29). His eyes were closed, his head phones were blasting praise music, and he was lost in openly worshiping God.
Not wanting to embarrass or startle him, I slowly brought up the lights. When he saw me, he gave a quick wave and then continued dancing as if I were not even there. He was certainly not embarrassed to have been caught worshiping the Lord, nor was he ready to stop just yet.
He was one of the most anointed men that I have ever met. Every word of his message burned into your heart, and you could hear God speaking through him. Revival followed him wherever he went, and at times what began as a one night meeting would last three weeks. That was twenty years ago, and when I saw him again recently, he was still on fire for the Lord. He keeps the fire burning.
That day I saw that even though I was serving in the praise team, had been through seminary, and thought I knew a lot about God, there were levels of knowing Jesus that I had not yet experienced in my life. There was an intimacy to be had, to be sought after, just as King David had with God. It is still obtainable today, but you have to really want it.
God promises that you will seek Him and find Him, when you search for Him with all of your heart. All of it, not part of it. I am still seeking Him myself, and I pray that you do as well. Knowing God intimately is the greatest reward this life has to offer, and one day I would love to be as free as the dancing preacher.Prayer: Heavenly Father I want more of You in my life. Consume me Lord, shake me up, break me out, set me free to serve You with my whole heart. I don't know what I need to do, but You do, and I give You permission to make it happen, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.
