I Am The God That Healeth Thee

Is any among you suffering? Let him pray. Is any cheerful? Let him sing praises. Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. James 5:13'15 WEB.

When I got out of bed, I was more tired than when I had laid down. We hadn't slept in weeks, except for brief moments here and there. My wife Sylvia had come down with a terrible choking cough that tormented her. She would continuously cough until she would throw up.

By this point, she had pulled several muscles in her stomach from all the retching, and it was extremely painful, often leaving her doubled over in tears. She couldn't leave home except to go to the doctor. And so far, no prescription, inhaler, or cough syrup they gave her seemed to help. This had been going on now for two long months. We were exhausted.

A traveling preacher was visiting our church that Sunday. We hadn't been to church together since it began, yet, we felt she should go that night. We went, and she coughed through the entire service. At the end of the meeting, the preacher, Dennis DeGrasse from North Carolina, asked if anyone needed prayer, and we went up front together.

Dennis laid his hands on Sylvia and began to pray, and she doubled over and started choking worse than ever. Then he said, "Cough, you are leaving now in the name of Jesus Christ!" and it did! She was instantly and miraculously healed. Sylvia had just been doubled over, coughing, choking, and red in the face. Now she was perfectly healed because of his prayer. On the drive home, the new quietness felt surreal. It has been over a decade now, and she has never had any more problems like that.

If you are sick, get the church leaders to anoint you with oil and pray for you as the scripture tells us. If you don't have a church, find one, or join us here at Refreshing Hope. We aren't meant to walk alone, for we need each other. It's God who does the healing, but it often comes through the prayers of His people.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I believe that You are my Healer. Please fix anything wrong in my body right now, and restore my health. Give me a clear direction, and help me get in step with You. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!
