Enemy At The Gates
This our bread we took hot for our supplies out of our houses on the day we went out to go to you; but now, behold, it is dry, and has become moldy. These wine skins, which we filled, were new; and behold, they are torn. These our garments and our shoes have become old because of the very long journey.' The men sampled their provisions, and didn't ask counsel from Yahweh's mouth. Joshua 9:12 WEB
One day some strangers came into the Israelite camp and said that they were from a faraway land. They had intentionally dressed in ragged clothing, and they carried old supplies like stale bread and cracked wine skins in order to deceive them. They wanted to make a deal with the Israelites who were gradually taking the Promised Land.
The Israelite leaders went through their supplies, saw the old bread, the cracked wine skins and they were convinced that the strangers were from a distant land. They were so confident that they had this correct that they did not bother to pray and ask God about it. They unknowingly made a deal with the enemy, and agreed to let them stay. Soon it was revealed that these men were from a nearby village, one of the next on their list.
The Israelite leaders had let their own (lack of) wisdom lead them into a trap, and God had let them do it without saying a word because they did not bother to ask Him. The examples provided for us in the Bible tell us that the Lord will not always intrude on our lives, but that He will let us live our life just as we want, with, or without Him being involved in it at all. His wisdom and guidance is there for us when we ask Him for it.
So include the Lord in the decisions of your life everyday. Invite Him to be a part of it, and He will. Always inquire of God before making binding decisions. The Lord would have gladly answered Joshua if they had only taken the time to ask Him. Prayer: Heavenly Father I thank You for Your wisdom, which I know is far greater than mine. Please help me remember to stop and pray a moment before I agree to sign something, for You can see what is going on behind the scenes and in people's hearts, when I cannot. Lead me down the right path today, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.
