Blessed Are The Meek
Matthew 5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Through this Holy Spirit endowed meekness, we are being placed in a rulership position in Christ. In order for a believer to walk in this kind of divine meekness, the King must be allowed sovereign rule in a person's heart. It is as Jesus declared to me years ago, YOU CANNOT BE ALLOWED TO SIT WITH ME IN HEAVEN UNLESS YOU FIRST ALLOW ME TO DETHRONE YOU ON EARTH. His rulership within our lives means full surrender on our part. This meekness of which Jesus spoke is brought into full fruition through true repentance and to be brought into its fullness we must humble ourselves before God, acknowledge that the ways of the flesh are wrong and contrary to His will and desire to bring forth the character and holiness of His Son in us. We must renounce and do away with the pride of the flesh. The flesh is willful, prideful, self-centered and stubborn. If we want to be truly fully devoted to the will of the Father by walking and living the life of truth in the way of Christ then we need to take heed never to defend the cause or the rights of the fallen flesh. The god of this world through some form of mental ascend will always attempt to reason us out of the plan, purposes and will of God for our lives as when Jesus discerned him coming through Peter. He said, "get behind me Satan because you do not mind the things of God but the things of man." The carnal mind must be dethroned so that the mind of Christ may find supremacy within our hearts. Satan rules through the natural mind whereas God rules through the mind of His Spirit. Therefore an important lesson should be learned in our pursuit to live a more devoted walk with God that the flesh will always seek to justify its fallen position or comfort zone and if we side with it, we strengthen Satan's hold on our lives to some degree.
Did not the Apostle Paul count all things loss for the sake of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus? Did he not declare all that was profit to his flesh as dung compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus his Lord and was he not consumed with a godly zeal to be conformed to the death of Christ and through that death to become a partaker of the resurrection glory and life of Christ? Then why should it be any different for us? Should not our attitudes be as it was with Christ that we may always be about the Father's business? Only we have the power of decision to walk as close to Him as we want to be but let us never forget that a closer walk will always require a greater sacrifice. TRUE LOVE IS A DIVINE GENTLEMAN AND HE WILL ONLY TAKE UP AND INHABIT THE SPACE IN OUR HEARTS THAT WE ALLOW HIM TO HAVE. A TRUE BOND-SERVANT OF GOD DESPISES ANYTHING LESS THAN GOD. The Lord loves the meek but He resists the proud.
As is clearly evidenced in Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
You can only be brought into the life of the Spirit as you embrace the work of the cross of Christ in your life by the putting to death the works of the flesh. First death to the old then resurrection into the new. The Spirit of God spoke these words to me: People who resist repentance by turning away from the things that draw them away from being devoted to the Lord are actually saying to God, "My fleshly desires are more important to me than having a spiritual walk with You and being devoted to things that pertain to life and godliness." TRUE LOVE TOWARDS GOD IS RADICALLY DEMONSTRATED THROUGH OBEDIENCE. Obedience is the only evidence of love and this love is the divine love of the Holy Spirit that is shed abroad in a heart wholly devoted to the life of the Spirit but in order for His love to take root and work in our hearts, all opposing desires must be eliminated. Most Christians are controlled by their own desires which cause them to only live for themselves towards their own fleshly goals.
These goals, pursuits and carnal desires are what Paul spoke off as wood, hay, and chaff and hold no value with God. These things will all be burned up in the judgment and only the things of the Spirit, only that which springs forth from the life of Christ that brings glory to the Father will remain and be rewarded. My fleshly desires will cause me to suffer a great loss when weighed in the eternal balance and scheme of things. We must, therefore, shift our focus and live towards eternity with an eternal perspective asking ourselves the constant question, WHAT HAVE I SACRIFICED TO BE REWARDED FOR IN ETERNITY?
WHAT WILL MY REWARD BE WHEN I STAND BEFORE GOD? DID MY LIFE BRING GLORY TO GOD OR TO MYSELF?
DID I ONLY GLORY IN MY OWN ACCOMPLISHMENTS HERE ON EARTH OR DOES MY GLORY COME FROM WHAT I ALLOWED HIM TO ACCOMPLISH THROUGH ME FOR HIM?
The Christian walk is a life lived out to the glory of God in the grace and the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. It is a life of extraordinary power based in holiness, humility and extraordinary love. This life is a life of sacrifice to bring forth the fragrance of Christ to the glory of God.
The church needs to understand that we were called to follow Christ and not ourselves. You will never become like Jesus if you resist the transformation work of the Spirit of Grace by living for yourself. Jesus Christ is not a self-centered Person but a selfless loving Savior. Self-centeredness is what got us into trouble in the first place. Remember that "my way" is the devil's way. The call to discipleship is a call to a life of sacrifice, therefore, the reason why there are so few disciples following Jesus. The call to be crucified means laying down your life just as He did so that you can serve the Father through the love of the Spirit. There is only one pattern portrayed for us in the life of the only begotten of the Father. Jesus Christ is the blueprint and standard for Christian living, therefore, the admonition to walk as He did and this can only happen when we yield ourselves to the influence, leading and the unction of the Holy Ghost. Understand that the Holy Spirit has no fleshly desires within Him.
He is radically passionate about Jesus and if you want to experience His passion then you need to allow Him entrance into your heart. Most Christians only know "about" the Holy Spirit and He is a complete stranger to them because they are so preoccupied with the self-life. The Holy Spirit is given to inhabit the disciple of Christ and to empower us to live like Jesus, manifesting His nature, His character, and His attributes so that people can be drawn to God. You have been called to live out Christ by demonstration and not by theology or theory. Anybody can talk well of God but how many of the proclaiming Christians of today demonstrate His reality by the way in which they live? Realize then beloved that before the life of Christ (the way that Jesus walked and lived) can become a living reality for you, you need to lay down, die to and renounce your former way of life. The reality of the new creation in Christ cannot be found in the life of the flesh, rather it is revealed in the life of the Spirit.
Therefore the glorious statement in 1 Corinthians 15:36 what has been sown cannot be brought back to life unless it has died. The cross is the doorway into this NEW LIFE IN CHRIST. To live in the experiential reality of the NEW, the OLD must be done away with. The same grace that saved us must also be allowed to change us. The call to discipleship is a call to a life where the love of God is perfected through a living sacrifice. Jesus was made perfect through suffering because true love requires sacrifice. A life deposited into the purposes and will of God (heaven's economy) is a life well spent and as the Lord said to me, it has eternal consequences that only eternity will tell. The self-life is a thief that will steal your eternal reward.
There is a beautiful scripture in Psalm 25:8-9 Good and upright is the LORD: therefore will He teach sinners in the way. 9 The meek will He guide in judgment: and the meek will He teach His way.
This means that as you are willing to humble yourself under the mighty hand of the Lord and allow Him to guide you through a life of repentance, exposing and dealing with everything that offends Him then allowing Him to judge it, then you will discover the righteous way of the Lord. It is the same as Romans 12:1 I beseech you, therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be you transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Meekness is the same as humility and submissiveness. It is the act of submitting; usually surrendering power to another as in yielding ourselves totally to the will of God and allowing Him to have His way in our lives and to do as He please by conforming our lives the standard of Christ.
To walk in meekness is a kingdom position obtained by becoming an obedient servant to the King. To serve God in the grace of the Holy Spirit puts one in a meek state of supreme happiness. The meek ones in the kingdom of God and of Christ are the ones who will be granted the honor to reign with them over the earth throughout the millennium and then onward into the eternal future. As is written in Rev 21:7 He that overcomes shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. 8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and fornicators, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
The meek are the ones who have lost all control over their lives, yielding their rights to the Lord to be brought into a ruling position with Him. They have allowed the deep cleansing work of the cross of Christ to rid their hearts of all rebellion against the King. These are the gentle lambs who follow the Shepherd wherever He may lead and they are never wise in their own eyes. They are meek toward their Master but bold and ferocious against the enemy. They are extreme radical lovers of God and allow no compromise whatsoever. The Lord's meek love-slaves only have eyes for Him and allow no distractions to come between them and Him. They are always responsive to His call, always sensitive to His will and always do what pleases the Father in the grace of His Spirit. This proclaimed meekness of a kingdom-dweller is the greatest strength with God because He gives His grace to the humble and nothing can overpower His grace. To be brought by the Spirit of grace to this place and condition of the meekness of Christ means that you must be willing to be totally stripped of all self-desire, self-reliance, self-trust, self-interest, self-confidence and every aspect of the self-life. You cannot walk with Him in the meekness of the Spirit if there are anything left of self because self at some point will always take offense, rise up in arrogance, be angered, be wanting to rebel and even indulge itself in the fleshly vanity of some sort.
Self is a corrupter of the glory of God and must be rooted out by the operation and the working of the cross until one is brought forth and established in the meekness of the Son of God. THE WORD IS MEEK AND GENTLE AS A CHILD AND ONLY FINDS PLEASURE IN DOING THE WILL OF THE FATHER. It is a kingdom position and a mature ruling position empowered by Godly authority and character established by the Spirit of meekness. There is no man as powerful as a man in total subjection to God because of the meekness of the Holy Spirit operating within his yielded heart. A true bondservant of Christ that walks in the meekness of the Spirit will always acknowledge who God is and will never boast in himself because he is always aware of the reality that without the Lord he is nothing and can do nothing. His desire is only to give glory to God and never to draw attention to himself.
Humility is the highest and most honorable ranking in the kingdom of God and the way up is the way down as is written in Jas 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He shall lift you up.
Isaiah 57:15 For thus says the high and lofty One that inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
If you are one that desires to be seated with God, ruling from this place of godly meekness, then let Him bring you to the very end of yourself by conforming you to the life and the pattern revealed in the life His dear Son. There is no other way.
