It's almost summer and a great time to work on intentional fitness! Keeping ourselves active is one of the things only WE can do to steward the bodies that God has given us. The challenge for this month is to exercise at least 30 minutes a day (you can break it up into segments, if needed) for five days a week. That leaves a day of rest and a day for unexpected interruptions. I encourage you to post what you are doing each day for accountability and to motivate the group. Let's challenge ourselves, work on getting our heart rates up and build strength for a lifetime of better health!

Sylvia Todd: Hi all! Last day for this event and I didn't get to do normal exercise, but we were go go all around town in the humid, hot sun, so that's something . Hope y'all have enjoyed the June fitness challenge!
June 30, 2016
Chris Dibbern: Ok, yesterday was some lifting with friends. Weighted in-place lunges, some shoulder work, some presses, reverse flies, curls. Good stuff! A day off from cardio! :-D
Tonight, we'll see. It's raining really hard, here, and I'm loving it!!! God is goooood! :-)
Sylvia Todd
Nice work, Chris! Haha, I wish it would rain here - just hot and humid today .

Sylvia Todd: Hi all! Did my morning treadmill/weights/ab roller set today . Back was bothering me some during the night, so trying to do things that don't aggravate it too much. #GottaKeepMoving

Glad you are getting a bit of rest and recharge, brother !

Sylvia Todd: Hi all! Knocked out my 30 mins this morning with treadmill, ab roller push ups and weights. This combo seems to do well for times when my sciatica has been flaring up a bit, like this week .

I really have more energy in the morning, and like the idea of getting the heart rate benefits for the rest of the day, so made it a point to just take half an hour for some treadmill, plank and weight time . Just a small change, but will probably make a difference over time . less
Winona Pyritz: Time after time in my life God has provided just what I needed. Sometimes an encouraging word from someone or a way to pay the bills. When I give He rewards me abundantly. Your daily devotion blesses me. Thank you for your hard work.

I did indeed end up working out about four times, in total. Basketball and Insanity in the morning (~1:20), as mentioned previously, and then basketball and bouldering, in the evening (~2 hours). That's way more than I usually do, but it was moderate enough to work for me.
I think I slightly pulled something in my back, but thankfully, the Lord provided a friend to walk on me. :-D Cheaper than paying for a massage!
Sylvia Todd
Wow, that's a lot! lol, I remember when my siblings and I were little, my mom would have us take turns walking on her back. I have never had anyone do that, but apparently it works .

Haha it happens. It gives me an excuse to work out extra hard, later, which I dare say I almost prefer!. :-D

Chris Dibbern: Ok, began this day, well. Shot hoops, early, as a warm-up, then came back in and did 41 minutes of Insanity, since I was already sweaty, anyway. The hope is climbing and swimming, later, since my friends are calling me to it.

Nothing gets you motivated like active friends! I remember after I prayed the Lord help me drop the 30 lbs or so, the first thing He did was put the right people in my life. :-)
Sylvia Todd: Knocked out a combo of barre exercises, planking (at least a bit...they are still pretty difficult for me ) and weights! What could be more fun than that !
Chris Dibbern
WTG Sylvia! The planks and other kinds of holds get easier. Some good worship music always helps me through the mental challenge of it. :-)

Sylvia Todd: Whoo, just one of those "go go, Gadget" days here, so taking one of my rest days !
June 23, 2016
Chris Dibbern: Tonight I kept pretty basic. Some calisthenics (three kinds of push-ups), planks (side and normal), and stretching. And the usual 2.8 or so miles walking.
Sylvia Todd
Very nice ! Haha, I didn't actually know there were different types of planking, though at this point, just "normal" is probably challenging enough .

The nice thing about high-intensity exercise I find is that, in addition to burning calories, it also really curbs appetite in the following hours. I googled to try to find out why, but it looks like they're not really sure, yet.

Sounds like a lot of fun! I used to love playing basketball when I was a kid, like before junior high. At about that point, I seemed to have stopped growing and everyone else shot ahead (I'm barely 5'2" now ). It was a sad time, lol.

Sylvia Todd: Hello ! Taking the day off for our anniversary, and praying you all have a blessed, healthy and joyful day!
Chris Dibbern: Today I kept simple: a little plyo and a lot of stretching, at the gym. :-) My back was feeling a bit out of whack, so I made sure to do some planks, too, after the stretching.
Anyway, God bless, and may the Lord help you glorify Him through your fitness goals!
Sylvia Todd
Oh yeah, be careful with your back! Haha, I have looked at planks, but can't quite get my head around doing them . I think they're supposed to be great though, yes?
Amen, brother, and God bless!

The most basic version is just keep your back straight, hands directly beneath your shoulders, and feet shoulder width apart. Have Dion watch to help you with your posture! The biggest mistake people make is either arching their back, or letting it sink too low. You want it flat like a wooden plank, and all your core muscles consciously tight!
Sylvia Todd
Ok, great tips, Chris, thank you! Going to give that a shot during the week !
