And They Were No More

  • Matthew 2:16-18

Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men. Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying:“A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, refusing to be comforted, because they were no more.

In a devotional this morning the Lord says to me: “Entrust your loved ones to Me; Release them into My protective care. Oh how we must trust Him with the lives of those we love. Always remembering that the Lord directs all things, allows certain things to come to pass so that something else might come forth.

In the Beginning God created; Most of know this, some of us have read our bibles through each year, some out of guilt, some out of pressure, some because there was going to be a quiz or a reward, but do you remember what your read? God created us in His image, but He gave us free will, to choose to or not to. He already knew what was in there hearts when He created Adam and Eve. He put temptation right in front of them, the tree of good and evil telling them they could not eat of that tree or they would die. Wow, they had a whole garden that spanned miles upon miles, they could eat anything but the fruit of this tree (Genesis 2:16). It was a set up by God. I believe He hoped they would make the right decision and leave the tree alone, but He knew Eve’s thoughts before she thought them. He saw her eye focus on the tree, He saw her pluck it, He saw her bite it, He saw her share it. Now the question is where was Adam before she plucked the fruit? Did he not tell her, because he was made first, what God had said about that tree? Where was the tree? Was it smack dab in their visual perception daily? Or did they have to walk a mile or two to see it? What ever really transpired detail for detail, only God knows, we were not there. The first sin of disobedience tossed them out of the garden to fend for themselves. Nothing was given to them but the cloths God had made for them. They would have to forage and work the ground to make something to eat. Something they did not have to think about in paradise.

    Genesis:22-24

Then the Lord God said,”Behold, the man has become like one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put out his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever” therefore the Lord God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken. So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.

Now Eve has her first son, Cain, remember that God has said in Gensis 2:16 “to the woman He said: I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; In pain you shall bring forth children; Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.” She has another male child, Abel. We now have the first murder when Cain kills Abel.

And the story of in the Beginning continues through out the content of the Bible. The bible is a very bloody book, if you have read the stories. You will see the children of Herods time, all murdered, why, because they were looking for Jesus, Herod was afraid, he was the only King and no one else would take his throne, not even a child. But God protected this precious family. The story of Ruth, puts her in the land of Moab, where they sacrifice children to their god. Families rearing their children to be sacrificed was a daily norm. In a Roman documentary by the BBC I watched recently on how they came to Britian and how they evolved (not your bible story version) it was an awesome glimpse into what that culture did and what they were all about. But this one thing stood out, that in those times, if a Roman woman had a child that was deformed in anyway, or not wanted, they were thrown into the garbage dump. Do we not do that today? Children today have been disposable as is an empty box of cereal. We do not see it, because we do not wish to see it! Over this past summer alone I can not tell you the countless news stories on Mothers leaving their child in the car on a hot day with all windows shut while they went to the mall to shop, while they had their hair done and on and on the list goes. What went on in bible times from wars to murders, to using children strapped with bombs to defeat the enemy all very present in our world today. Solomon writes:

    Ecclesiastes 1:9

What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.

Remember David and Bathsheba? Adultery, murder, a child dies. BUT GOD uses Davids line to bring forth Jesus, now wrap your mind around that.

Romans 8:28 says; And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God and to those who are called according to his purpose.

Even the senseless killing and abuse of children. If you have read your bible you will see how many times a whole nation was wiped out, including children. War does not exempt children, evil does not exempt children.

Psalm 56:3 “In God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid” but the reality is in today's world, made so much more by the media, leaves us with fear as we put our children on the school bus each day. Or kiss our husbands and wives goodbye.

I want to show you that Jesus is with us no matter where we go. The men that took the bullets at the Florida school shooting gave their lives to save the children. Willingly putting their lives on the line for that one or two he could hope to save. These men are an example of God’s love for us in that He gave His only begotton son Jesus to all humanity, so that all of humanity would have the choice to have a personal relationship with him. God gave us Jesus, Jesus paid it all, all to him I owe, he took the bullet that was meant for me, and I owe him my life. Have you looked into the eyes of Jesus lately, have you come to view all that he went through for you? He was beaten, lashed with the whip, a crown of thorns embedded into his head, nailed to a cross in his writs and feet, (think about that for a moment). We do not get a real glimpse until we really look Jesus in the eyes to all that he endured for us. The closest visual I can say is “The Passion” film. When you see the visual of His beatings and whippings, you begin to weep with those who stand in the crowd. You will have no real idea what Jesus went through for you all so you would have the opportunity to spend eternity with Him.

From the beginning God has used death, and war, and all kinds of hideous things we would like not to think about because they are not the pretty clean version we have in our heads. Can you imagine what Abraham was going though when God told him to sacrifice his son Isaac. BUT GOD had a plan, He always has a plan, although we do not understand it now, and the truth is we may never understand it, but when we give Jesus our hearts we give him everything we have, even our children.

    John 3:16

For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son so that anyone who believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

As my own fear has gripped me, God continues to remind me not to be afraid, that He will never leave me nor forsake me. Today, as we mourn these men and woman, young teens and those whose lives were just starting, please keep in mind that if you are a child of God and one of these children were yours, if you taught them right and they excepted Christ, then one day you have that assurance you will see them again, because of Jesus sacrifice. If your child does not know Jesus yet, then you need to share his story to greatest depth you can so that he or she will want to say yes to Him. The cold hard fact is, if your child dies without Christ and he or she is past the age of accountability, knowing right from wrong, then your child will spend eternity separated from you.

We will lose our children to the bowels of Hell if we do not teach them about Jesus. And if we have taught them, and they have excepted Him, then we have to trust that no matter what happens, that Jesus is fully aware and that He has a purpose. We all have an expiration date. For some it is earlier than we think it should have happened. God sees the whole picture, he knows how our lives will turn out. We live in a fractured world where evil seems to be gaining on the good, BUT GOD has had a plan from the beginning, so if you turn to the last book of the Bible, you will see that God wins. So fear not little flock, the Lord is with you till the end.

    Deuteronomy 31:8

Don’t be afraid, for the Lord will go before you and will be with you; he will not fail nor forsake you.”

May the Lord Bless You and Keep You All of Your Days,

    Leslie

Thank you Rebecca. My journey of Adversity has been a long one. When God started me writing, he used bits and pieces of my story to inspre or encourage others no matter how painful it has been. These stories, are to illumante Him. WHen he has me write, He brings me the title, the scripture, and the body, and the closing of the message. When he calls me to write, my most painful moments are intertwined into them. These stories are all about Him, how he gives and takes a way and how He even uses loss for His Glory.  My journey has brought me through many areas that others have been through. Like being married to an alcholic for 23 years and on and on I could go. My daughters testomony contines, after all these years to inspire others so although she is gone from my life for now, she contines to reach out to others. God does indeed use us in a way only He can through what ever horrible experiences we may have.Thank you for your kind words.

Thank you Leslie *♡* We all need a good reminder of who really controls our futures. Fear is only a lie from the enemy and the complete opposite of faith. Praying for all affected by the tragic loss of so many...

Thank you Dianna. I am aquanted with the the loss of a child, I know the heart ach these parents feel. A death of a child, not matter how they die will never stop the ach in a mothers heart of that child. My daughter, Curry, excepted the Lord at 4 1/2 years old. She had been going to christian school, then when Vacation Bible School came up she attened, when she came home from that program she was all ablaze with excitment, she was walking on clouds, she met Jesus that night and gave her life to him through that program. I knew she really had Him. The woman who led her to the Lord in VBS was also her school teacher and sunday school teacher, so I knew Curry truely understood. It would be one month from this gllorious day in 1985 that Curry would be diagonised with Leukiema. And through that diagoinos, I knew that no matter what, she was heaven bound. God would allow her to stay alive but she would fall in relapse every two years, with a bone marrow transplant inbetween, untill at 14 1/2, Curry would die in my arms where she would spend her eternity with Jesus whom she had fallen in love with all those years ago. GOd used her in many ways through out her illness, but in the end, death is still death, but there can also be rejoicing when you know that your than, tean age child would be in heaven. My heart still aches for her, she has been in heaven now 23 years, she would have turned 37 this past Feb. 3. It was the woman who led me to the Lord who would be my mentor and guide as I reared my children. Curry was born in Feb. 3 1981, I would except Jesus on December 1981. Her digonisis would would be in 1985, I would have been a christian for only 4 years upon her diagonisis. And Asher, would be only one year old. A very difficult time indeed.
