God's grace overwhelms me! 11/3/16

  •
God's grace overwhelms me. He is faithful even when I am not obedient to what he wants me to do. He is a good Father, He watches over me and holds me tight in the night.

My life has gone into crisis mode. I had run out of all my prescription medicines, but just before that, I researched places that might help. I could not go far, I had a little less than a ¼ of a tank of gas in the car. I was fearful of running out of gas. When you get to this desperate state of not knowing your are anxious, you are fearful and it feels like you are standing under a waterfall and you are stuck in the falling water, paralyzed and can do nothing. I have spent a lot of time researching what is out there that will help my situation. I kept being led to 2-1-1 , you can go to the web page or just dial 211. You ask them a question and they look up what you ask for and find a link or phone call for you to investigate.

All my bills are past due. My car insurance is now 4 weeks late, not sure when they will cancel my contract. If so, then I cant drive. My sister Laura in South Dakota, said I should look into a free government cell phone. I said what? She said look up government free phones. I then spoke with Verizon cell phone company about my bill, what happens now that I am late, when will the phone be cut off. They were gracious, and gave me an extension. Before I got off the phone with the woman, I asked her if they had programs for a free phone, she said that is what all the surcharges we pay for go to. So with that conversation, I called 211. I asked the woman about it and she oh yes, let me get you the number. There were two programs, she gave me the one with the most. The name of the company is Insurance Wireless 1-888-898-4888 they are open 24x7. The program is 500 free minutes, unlimited text, and a free phone. They do not know what kind of phone you will get. You have to qualify, and having Foodstamps is one qualification. They are sending me out an application. That would save me $30.00 a month with verizon.

In a passing conversation, I mentioned to a friend, that I was out of printer ink. With out printer ink I can not print off all the paperwork involved in applying for these programs. (You see I take the new papers to the library, scan them, so when needed all I have to do is print them off from home. I could print them at the library, but you have to be sure you have the gas to get there, then the .10 cents a copy) . This same woman is the same woman who has paid my rent for these last three months.

211 also led me to Blue Ridge Independent living center, just down the street where they have all kinds of things for seniors and disabled. When it comes time for my hip surgery, they have items you can borrow to help in your recovery, like a walker and a raised toilet. This morning I go to see what other things they can help me with.

I am dropping off paperwork for Heating Assistance, although I did not qualify for cooling assistance, I was told that they are not as strict with heating assistance. They consider cooling assistance a luxury.

Finding a place in the network of web pages is mind boggling, but thank the Lord for google. I was looking for free services for prescriptions. I spoke with pharmacies, no help, they led me to discount places, I already get the lowest prices on generics. If I got all brand name, I could fill out an application for that pharmaceutical company and they might be able to help. All these programs are a might be, you might not qualify even if you are at 0 income. One program you might be able to get, was way downtown, and I did not have the gas in order to drive there to find out if I qualified.

At the beginning of the week, Monday morning at 7:30 am, a former co-worker, whom I have not seen in a year, dropped off a bag of groceries. Chicken, brown rice, carrotts, a bag of potatoes, a bag of pasta and pasta sause and a dozen eggs. When you are short on food this is such a welcome blessing. So we made the pasta for lunch, and finished it for dinner. Then put the brown rice at the bottom of the crock pot, added a can of mushroom soup ( from the dollar tree), a cup of broth, the chicken, three onions ( I had in the refrigerator), a whole bulb of garlic ( I also had on hand) and the chicken. It cooked through the night.

But I was still concerned about gas in the car and my prescriptions. Trying not to go into a panic, nor send my self to the ER..

I had emailed a few friends and asked for extra prayer. I texted my disabled friend and neighbor, Maryann and asked her for prayer, told her we were in crisis mode. No prescriptions, no gas, out of coffee, two rolls of toilet paper left. I said we need a miracle, this was also on Monday. I did not hear back from her.

I continued to toil with links and web pages, I wrestled with God in prayer. I was then off two doses of one Blood pressure med, and one of the other BP med. I was trying to hold my slef together. This is a very hard situation when you do not have anyone in your life you can ask to help you with a crisis situation that involves cash like this. My only hope was prayer.

    Matthew 6:8

“Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.

I kept quoting that scripture, kept trying to breathe and not over due, I was unsure of what not having any blood pressure meds in me would do. I did feel woozly and unsteady. I made sure to lie down, and move slowly.

I kept praying, then I reached out to my Pastor with an email. I asked if the church could help and give me $50.00 so I could put gas in my car and get my prescriptions. I have not asked him for help before this, and he told me he could not help in the conversations we had before this. I was unsure but I was boldly going there, out of desperation I had to ask. I waited.

At 10:30 am, I got a text from Maryann. She said she would be over in 20 minutes. What you have to understand, is what it takes for her to get ready and go out of her house. She is dealing with Rheumatoid Arthritis, and her frame is a very large woman, and is like the woman in the bible who was in the crowd hunched over Luke 13: 10-13. This is a perfect description of my friend. She has to take all her medication, put ointment on for pain, when she makes it to her door, she has to rest on her stairs outside before she can get to her car. This is a sheer will of survival. She does not have anyone but us in her life, and we are not there daily. Well, when she showed up in our drive way, Asher went out and talked with her. She is unable to come into my apartment, it is to hard for her. She asked me to come out. She had handed Asher $30.00 cash, and said, get your stuff, get in the car we are going out to lunch. WOW ! We had not been out since Sunday when we went to Sunday School. So we went to Hardees and she bought us a meal. She spent over $30.00 on that meal for herself and us. She no longer has her lawn mowed, so the money she would have used for that, was used on us. We sat in the parking lot under the shade of a tree, she prayed over our meal, we ate, we talked, we laughed. It was such a beautiful day. When we were through, she asked me where else I needed to go, so I said Walmart drive through so I could get my prescriptions. She gladly drove there, I got two of my prescriptions of which she had supplied the money for. We then took the long way home, it was a beautiful drive, the air was very warm, the trees were in such beauty, I was able to just view the scenery from the passengers side. She dropped us off, I gave her a hug and thanked her for her generosity.

(You see, about three weeks ago, we went to visit her, and she was in a very bad state. She was in a lot of pain. I asked her what was wrong, she said she had been out of her pain medication and ointment for days. She had just enough Aleeve to take the following day so she could make it to her doctors appointment . When I heard that I said immediately, do you have any cash? I will go to walmart and get you what you need. In the mean time, I got her a glass of water and her last two aleeve and made sure she took them. She did not have cash so she wrote me a check, in that check for $30.00 she told me to get my prescription pain med that she knew I was out of then ( a double blessing). So off we went to the bank, cashed the check, went to walmart, got her two tubes of bengay, no name brand, and a large bottle of Aleeve, it came to $19.00 and change. I took the $10.00 and got my prescripiton. The Lord had preset this up if you look at it. I was not there to ask her for money for my prescription, we went there for a visit, she was in trouble, and I had to help her there was no ifs ands or buts. God blessed my action and provided for me what I needed in that moment in time.)

When Maryann dropped us off back home, Asher and I regrouped, got some water jugs and went back out. We put some gas in the car, drove several miles to the New Horizons health care where my Losartain BP prescription was waiting for me for $4.00. (If I get this at Walmart out of pocket, it is $50.00. So I have to drive farther. I get two prescriptions at walmart, one at our kroger grocery store, and two at New Horizon. ) After that, we stopped at the Dollar tree, we needed coffee and toilet paper.

While I was out, at 2:00 pm, I got a phone call from our Pastor. He said he got my email, and that he was giving me $50.00 out of his personal account. He said that the church does not give out cash. They like to know ahead of time if help is needed then they make arrangements. I told him I understood, that I did not know if he could even help. (I hope one day to be able to give it back to him in a thank you card, and ask him to put it tucked in his wallet so when he runs into someone who needs help, that he can just give that person the $50.00. That is what I hope to do.) In the mean time, I am grateful the Lord used our pastor is such a way as to help us.

So now I can get the other prescription I did notget yesterday, that is my antianxiety meds $10.00. I can get $10.00 in quarters to do laundry. We were looking at cutting up an old towels for face cloths. I can Put some more gas in the car and get a few items at the grocery store. I get foodstamps on Monday November 7th, but it does not cover taxable items. And gas is needed to get to the grocery store.

This crisis has been averted. It is easy for someone to say, just let go and let God. Turn it over to him. Be still. All these things I am very well aware of , but it is far from as easy as it sounds.

I had to cancel another appointment on Wednesday with the woman from Health Education, she was going to talk with me about how to lose weight. I did not have the gas to go. So when she called me back, she said she would pop some information in the mail for me to go over. Losing weight is going to be very difficult. I can not maintain what needs to be gotten in order for the weight to come off. Does not matter what book or plan, it still takes a consistency of funds to do that. I have maintained a record daily of what I am eating, what I am drinking etc. I am doing daily exercises on the bed, and have added a few more. It is just out of my control.

I have heard no more on Disability. All I can do with all of this is Hope in the Lord, trust Him at his word to supply all my need.

There are many programs out there, but they all have exceptions, they all take time, I am doing my best to stay ahead of all things, but it is overwhelming. But God continues to remind me HE is their. And I keep going back in my needyness to see what direction I need to go in.

It is all about the paperwork when you are living on the edge of the world.

Thank you for all your prayers, your faithfulness to praying for me are what is keeping me going.

Father, I lift up Leslie and Asher to you and thank you for the mercy that you have granted them. I ask that you continue to guide them, that you speak to them clearly about what they should do, where they should go, and who they should speak to in order to provide for their needs. For all that is out of their power, we know that Your grace is enough, and I pray that you extend much grace and mercy to them, and help them out of this valley, whatever is required. I thank you and pray this in the name of Jesus, amen <3!

Many prayers to you. I went through this process for my brother. .  They make it so difficult to get the help you need.  I pray that God makes the way smooth for you and that you find a program where you get a caseworker.  Eventually my brother got a caseworker and he knew all the ins and outs of available help and he still works with my brother.  I pray God sends a caseworker to you to help with paperwork and benefits.  Amen.
