The Vineyard from Refreshing Hope Ministries on Vimeo. I have always admired Amos, who was a shepherd in a field when the Lord told him to go and prophesy to King Jeroboam in Bethel. The priest Amaziah told him to prophesy somewhere else. They weren't interested in what the Lord had to say, but A...

Then Satan answered Yahweh, and said, "Does Job fear God for nothing? Haven't you made a hedge around him, and around his house, and around all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. But put forth your hand now, and touch all t...

Fire and Ice

  • Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword. Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, 'So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I don't make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time!' When he saw that, he arose, and ran for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there. But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree. Then he requested for himself that he might die, and said, 'It is enough. Now, O Yahweh, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.' 1 Kings 19:1 WEB

Elijah just had a major breakthrough in his life on top of Mount Carmel. He had won a showdown with 850 false prophets. God backed him up by answering with fire from heaven. Then Elijah prayed and brought rain, ending a three and a half year drought (James 5:17). He outran a chariot in a sixteen mile race back to town (1 Kings 18:46). This was certainly a high point in Elijah's life. A season of major breakthrough.

Right behind the victory came sudden fear and discouragement. Elijah had to run for his life. He ran into the wilderness and then sat down and prayed that he might die, completely drained, tired, and burnt out. He lost his appetite and was consumed with self-pity. The man of God was now in a gloomy, dark, place in his life. He had gone from hot as fire, to cold as ice.

The Lord asked him: 'What are you doing here Elijah?' Then after Elijah carefully explained his circumstance, and how it was only him against the nation, the Lord gave him a new task. Elijah now had a fresh vision, a renewed hope.

Anyone that has walked with the Lord a while has had something go differently than they planned. You don't always get what you want, the way you want, when you want it.

Be assured that every time that you fall down, give up, and pray to die, God is going to say 'What are you doing here again? Get up. There is still work to do.' So today, if you are ready to give up, hide under a bush and sleep, have hope.

Sometimes the greatest defeats follow amazing breakthroughs. When that happens, get somewhere quiet, pray and get a fresh vision from God for what is next. Your journey is not over until you will no longer get up.

Prayer: Father please give me a fresh vision for my life. Renew my hope. Take away the doom and gloom and help me focus on knowing You. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Note: Good morning! For any who have not seen it the "Passionate About Education" group is hosting an event to celebrate the music of the season! You are all invited to join in!

Joan Joseph
Joan Joseph Yes, I have been there. Weary broken and tried. This road to glory has not been easy, the journey has  been really bumpy. Sometimes its even hard for me to pray, but that supernatural power of Jesus always lefts me up and puts me back on my feet. Praise be to God where all my help comes from, the maker of heaven and earth (Psalms 121:2). Thank you Lord for using Pastor Todd to deliver a powerful messages. Amen

Norman Glaze Sr
Norman Glaze Sr I think it would be laughable if it weren't so painful when we get like this. If we faint in the day of adversity our strength is small. Unfortunately, been there and done that many times, lol. So Thankful that Our God provides The Grace we need. Thank You Jesus

Laura B. Martinez
Laura B. Martinez Thank you Pastor Todd. I really needed this. I have been feeling really down this week. Too much going up that sometimes I just want to give up. Thank for reminding me that God doesn't want me to give up. He has plans for me and I need to continue to reach out to him so he can show me the way.

Carol Pady
Carol Pady Quite a few times things didn't work out as I thought they would. Plans fell through, circumstances arose that delayed and derailed them. Other times they never came about at all. During these seasons of disappointment, discouragement, even dispair, I questioned if God was listening to my prayers,  or was He withholding blessings from me, because of something I had done or not done. Was He angry or disappointed with me?  He had a different plan, He had a better plan, everytime. He answered my needs and my prayers differently from what I had envisioned. I  was never disappointed with His answer, I was always amazed!

Natalie Carey
Natalie Carey It never ceases to amaze me that when I feel like lying down and would just accept death if it came to me that Pastor Dion you put up a devotional as if you wrote it specifically with me in mind. My job quest continues. I have been turned down for positions I thought I was going to be offered the job. I am behind in all my bills. My children are estranged from me. I could go on but I don't want to sound like a whiner. Thank you Pastor for keeping me focused on what is important and that is knowing our Lord and waiting upon His time, not mine. The trial is hard but I know I will be molded into a better person because of this. Natalie

Deleted Member Amen, Natalie, you can rest assure that Jesus will not fail you, nor will He ever forsake you or leave you alone. Even in the midst of any storms that we face, He will give us the wisdom to know the directions He has for us and whatever needs we might have, if we will trust Him completely, put our faith in Him, He will not let us down. God is so good and He loves you so much. God bless you. Love and hugs.

Kalli Cook
Kalli Cook A friend has been sending me some of your blog posts.  I signed up today because the last two she sent me were specific answers to prayer.  One was about Brisket, and the other was today's "Fire and Ice".  I signed up on your site to share the word God gave me during my prayer time this morning which beautifully dovetail's with your blog post today:  "When we are working according to our own plan, we have expectation.  When we are working according to God's plan, we have faith.  Sometimes we get faith and expectation mixed up and it can bring discouragement.  Sometimes we think we are working according to God's plan, and when things don't work out the way we expected, we get discouraged or frustrated.  That is what happens when we mix our own plan with God's plan.  Faith has no expectations.  Faith only believes.  Faith withstands all circumstances and all results no matter how they work themselves out or where they end up.  Faith cannot get discouraged or frustrated because faith's only focus is the trustworthiness of God and the dependability of His word."God bless you and your ministry.
