Yahweh opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam, "What have I done to you, that you have struck me these three times?" Balaam said to the donkey, "Because you have mocked me, I wish there were a sword in my hand, for now I would have killed you." The donkey said to Balaam, "Am I not yo...

Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of his chariots, saying, "Don't fight with small nor great, except only with the king of Israel." When the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, they said, "It is the king of Israel!" Therefore they turned around to fight against him. But Jehoshap...

When in the Den

  • Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spoke and said to Daniel, Your God whom you serve continually, he will deliver you. A stone was brought, and laid on the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that nothing might be changed concerning Daniel. Daniel 6:16 WEB

After serving God faithfully, Daniel ended up being 'What's on the menu' in a stinking hole in the ground'or so it appeared to him when he was thrown in there. I believe that Daniel sat at the bottom of that Lion's Den, with the starving lions eyeing him hungrily, and thought: 'REALLY? This was the plan? What's up with that?'

Thank God the story does not end there. It turned out that it was a promotion for Daniel. The lions did not touch him, and after getting out he prospered under the king and had great respect. As a bonus, his enemies were tossed in and eaten so he did not have to worry about them anymore.

There have been times in my life when I have found myself in a stinking hole in the ground, right after trying my hardest to live right. Pray and fast for a few weeks, and then get laid off from work. What's up with that? In the end, every single time it worked out for my good.

At one point in stark contrast, I lost the best job that I ever had (until then) and soon had to work at the worst job that I ever had, and at one-third of the pay. I was praying and fasting a lot of the time and I knew that God was in control of my life. I also knew that He was testing me, it was so obvious, and the job was so bad that it was funny. This scripture kept ringing out to me: 'And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ' (Colossians 3:23'24).

So I made it into a game and set out to be the best floor sweeper that they had ever seen. My work area was immaculate. I showed up early, stayed late, and soon I found myself the manager. Then that door closed and the Lord pushed me into my own business. It was a strange path of promotion.

It just may be that what you think is the 'worst thing that could possibly happen to you' is indeed your path to favor and promotion. Work heartily just as you were working directly for the Lord, and you will be rewarded. Smile, God is the real boss.

Prayer: Father, I thank You so much for all that You are doing in my life. I know that You are in control of what happens to me for I have given my life to You. Help me focus on what matters and cover me with Your presence today, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Note: Good morning! FYI, we have tweaked and restructured some areas of the website. There is now a "Pastor''s Corner", which contains the devotional, teachings and other areas pertaining to Pastor Dion. We have merged videos, photos, etc. into a "Multimedia" page. Finally, we have tweaked the "Blogs" page so you can better find the posts from our member bloggers, especially for mobile users. You can click on the names to see their list of blogs, and there is now a subscribe link for each blogger so you can subscribe to their posts. These are all new, so we would appreciate any of you who can check out these areas and let us know if you see any issues. Thank you all so much :)!

David and Dianna Wyles
David and Dianna Wyles Why is it the stinking holes often mean promotion?... I feel like a good portion of my life has been in the trenches and stinking holes. When does it get easier? Ok I'm over venting... I know God is good, I know I am blessed. I know if it was easy there would be no need for the sacrifice of Christ. I think overwhelment has gotten the better of me and I just need to praise his name on high! He walks with me in the darkest of times and I can feel his presence then... why when it is NOT the darkest of times do I feel alone when I know I am not? Lies! Lies!! Get away from me with these lies satan!!!! I AM loved! I AM ok! I AM provided for! I AM The child of the most high! I AM NEVER Alone! I AM Blessed every day! I AM following God's plan not mine! Father, protector, healor, provider, thank you for not leaving me when I feel alone! Thank you for always being my heavenly Father! Thank you for guiding me through the good, the bad, and the self inflected drama I so often add to my plate! lift me up and guide me Lord! Stop this draining cycle in me! Renew and restore my spirit to the happiness and joy of serving you. If you can calm my nerves too... that would be awesome! I know that You are in control of what happens to me for I have given my life to You. Help me focus on what matters and cover me with Your presence today, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray. AMEN!! Thank you pastor Dion. You are a bright and shining light in a dark and hurting world. May our Father always find favor in you and bless you abundantly.

Susan P Thank you for using your life to bring us great hope and encouragement. How deeply a message hits when one can relate so well! If you hadn't gone through the trenches, you wouldn't have these wonderful testimonies as examples we all can use. So thankful God uses everything and grateful for this blessed ministry.

Carol Pady Amen! Thank you Pastor Dion for another powerful message! When God chooses to refine us, He pours that heat on. Then it is our choice to complain or to accept the circumstances knowing that all things work together for our good. The best place to be in the midst of the most fiery circumstances is on our knees. We must surrender all to Him as we go through these difficult times. Our prayer must be more of You and less of me!

Joseph Gomez
Joseph Gomez Amen! Thank you Pastor! "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose."- Romans 8:28 What an amazing promise not only because it demonstrates that an all-powerful God cares about you and me, but because it cannot be fulfilled unless the One Who gives it is all-knowing, all-wise, all-powerful, and all-loving. The promise itself is a testimony to God’s sovereignty. But God makes that promise, and millions throughout history have testified to its truth because God has proven His ability to back it up time and time again. Think about the implications of that promise. Because God is sovereign and He loves you, nothing will ever come into your life that He does not either decree or allow. Consequently, no matter what you face in life, you can take comfort in the fact that God is sovereign.
