Don't seek what you will eat or what you will drink; neither be anxious. For the nations of the world seek after all of these things, but your Father knows that you need these things. But seek God's Kingdom, and all these things will be added to you. Luke 12:29'31 WEB.The most important things in your life aren't things at all. If your primary focus is stuff, you will always feel empty inside. Solomon called it "Chasing the wind." It will feel good for a little while when you get something new, but soon you will be empty again.
When you make your relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ your focus, He will provide these "other" things that you need as well. Put God first in your life, and you will also have the things you desire. The Bible teaches us that all the way through:
"Also delight yourself in Yahweh, And he will give you the desires of your heart" (Psalms 37:4).
"Blessed is the man who doesn't walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the way of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers; But his delight is in Yahweh's law; On his law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree planted by the streams of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also does not wither. Whatever he does shall prosper" (Psalms 1:1'3).
"I have been young, and now am old, Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, Nor his children begging for bread. All day long he deals graciously, and lends. His seed is blessed" (Psalms 37:25'26).
"He set himself to seek God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the vision of God: and as long as he sought Yahweh, God made him to prosper" (2 Chronicles 26:5).
"Without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to him, for he who comes to God must believe that he exists, and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him" (Hebrews 11:6).
Jesus commands us not to worry. It's not a suggestion. Then He gives us simple instructions: "Seek God first, and all these things will be added to you." Let us intentionally seek God today and make Him a part of our lives. Let us put Him first.
