Commotion

It happened in these days, that he went out to the mountain to pray, and he continued all night in prayer to God. When it was day, he called his disciples, and from them he chose twelve, whom he also named apostles Luke 6:12'13 WEB.

My mind was in chaos after a morning filled with phone calls, texts, and many emails. The inside of my head felt like I was standing in a busy intersection. It was just noise in there. I needed to hear from the Lord and get fresh inspiration to write, but I could only hear the commotion.

I finally left my phone behind and withdrew to my prayer room. After some quiet time and prayer with the Lord, I could hear once again. Now I'm an introvert, but I believe everyone could use some quiet time with God and the Bible. It sets the tone for the rest of our day.

Though people followed Him everywhere, Jesus often withdrew to be alone with God. Many people depended on Him, and of course, doing God's work was vitally important. Yet, Jesus made spending time alone with the Father a priority in His life. He was the Son of God, yet Jesus lived His life as our example. He used this quiet time to stay in tune with the Father and get His instructions for the day.

Jesus prayed all night before He chose His twelve apostles. (Luke 6:12). There are many references that show Jesus withdrew from the crowds at times. Sometimes He took His apostles with Him and taught them alone. Sometimes they would get into a boat and leave for a deserted place where the masses couldn't follow them (Matthew 14:13).

We shouldn't allow the hustle and bustle of today's busy life to make us spiritually deaf. God isn't demanding or rude, and He won't normally force His way into your day. The Lord often speaks to us, but it may be a small nagging feeling or something subtle. If your head is in chaos, you will often miss Him. In quietness and trust, we will find strength (Isaiah 30:15).

Find somewhere quiet and peaceful where you can be alone with the Lord, if only for a few minutes. Pray and listen for a moment. Maybe read your Bible. That small whisper can change your life, and it may save it. Don't let the commotion of life rob you of the greatest blessing.

Prayer: Speak to me today, Lord, for I am listening. Teach me, and I will learn. Lead me, and I will follow. I want to live my life for You. Please break these chains off of me today, and set me free to serve You. In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen!
