Yahweh opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam, "What have I done to you, that you have struck me these three times?" Balaam said to the donkey, "Because you have mocked me, I wish there were a sword in my hand, for now I would have killed you." The donkey said to Balaam, "Am I not yo...

Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of his chariots, saying, "Don't fight with small nor great, except only with the king of Israel." The Mercy Seat

  • Then his lord called him in, and said to him, 'You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt, because you begged me. Shouldn't you also have had mercy on your fellow servant, even as I had mercy on you?' His lord was angry, and delivered him to the tormentors, until he should pay all that was due to him. So my heavenly Father will also do to you, if you don't each forgive your brother from your hearts for his misdeeds. Matthew 18:32 WEB

Mercy is compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one's power to punish or harm. Basically, it is not punishing them, even though they deserve it, even when they have really earned it, and it is well within your power to make them pay for it. It is turning the other cheek, when you would like to slap theirs.

Someone hurt me very badly once and I had to forgive them every day for a few years. Anytime that it came to mind, I forgave them again until one day, it no longer bothered me and I no longer thought about it. This one took a long time. Each time they came to mind I would say 'Father, I forgive them for what they did.' Eventually, it became real and I no longer comforted myself by thinking of their demise like Esau did with Jacob (Genesis 27:42).

Sitting right on top of the Ark of the Covenant was the mercy seat (Exodus 25:21). That is where God spoke from. Mercy is a big thing to the Lord and all through out the Bible you read about it. The Lord promises us that if we will show mercy, we will in turn be shown mercy (Matthew 5:7). It is an amazing promise, and it allows us to choose what is coming in our own life.

Forgiveness does not make you a doormat, and repeat offenders need to be dealt with in a peaceful manner. Who we allow to be a part of our lives is a choice that we make. Some people belong on this side of our door, others should be outside of it, with the door locked. Forgiveness does not mean that you are weak. It is a calculated, intelligent choice to recognize that someone deserves punishment, but so do we all.

God Almighty who created the universe, all powerful, holds our very life in His hands and can take it away instantly. He shows us mercy by forgiving us of our mistakes, but He did say that we have to forgive others, or that we would not be forgiven. Keep a clean slate. If you get the chance today to let someone off the hook, do so. The Lord will reward you by letting you off yours.

Prayer: Heavenly Father I choose to forgive those that have wronged me. I loose them and let them go free. I choose to show them mercy today because You told us to. Forgive me of my own sins and set me free from the chains that bind me, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Note: Happy Monday! The highlighted group of the week is the Haven of Hope, a place of refuge for anyone who is suffering from the effects of abuse. Abuse can come in various forms including physical, sexual, mental, and spiritual. The highest priority is your safety and that you feel the warmth of our Heavenly Father''''s love while you rest, share, and connect with others who are walking a similar road. The group is set as private, which means only group members will see your posts. ALSO, the Creation Photographers fun theme is "If You Love It, Take a Picture of It"! As always, you are free to post anything else that inspires you, too! FINALLY, for those following along with our RHM Bible Study, the newest installment is available, covering Luke Chapter Six. Thank you for writing this. I often wondered if forgiving someone, when I don't really feel it in my heart, is really forgiving.

I didn't think the Lord wanted me to keep asking until I feel that they are forgiven, for what if I died tomorrow and my heart still doesn't feel like I have forgiven someone? Sometimes we may not live to have months or years to forgive others. Best to pray all night or all day and ask the Lord for forgiveness to come right then. Just my humble opinion, although this is very hard at times.

So true--only when we forgive others can we really experience peace! But it sure is a long, hard process!

There are sometimes that I thought that I had forgiven my aunt for all of the pain that she has caused me over the years. But then there are times that I realize that I am still hurt and angry for the things that she has done to me. Now after reading this daily devotional I have realize that I have to ask God to forgive me and I have to somehow forgive my aunt. She has had my children for 10 years now. She has never let my children give me a phone call on the holidays or call at all in 10 years. I could only visit with my children for 1 hour at a supervised visitation center. She stop bringing them to the visitation center. I have not seen my children in six years. This is very hard for me because my heart feels numb. It is hard for me to show emotion. I pray that God will help me forgive her. That is all that I can do now.
